The art is decent but not always my cup of tea. The characters lack a cohesive feel when examining how they fit into the story. The plot is simple but doesn't drive the story beats, which in this case is a negative thing. And, in my opinion, the mood (or vibe) of this story comes across as what I'm calling fake maturity.
The main character is quite subdued, almost to an emotionless state for significant portions of time, and he also acts more maturely than a lot of the other characters in certain situations as a result of this. But the rest of the characters get such extreme personalities it just clashes with the main character.
I'm beginning to think current Japanese common sense isn't the same as common sense that used to be just about everywhere.
For example, people IRL don't turn gay just because someone saved their life. And no one feels the need to worship them, either. But in this manga, and quite a few others I've read, that seems to be the case—the worship part, at least.
And for some reason, as with this manga, Japanese main characters hate killing evil characters, even when that evil character did something horrible to them or their loved ones and makes it clear other people have been and will be victims in the future. If you tolerate evil with no intention to do anything about it, you're just accepting that evil and are thus part of the problem. And so many Japanese protagonists, this manga's included, are guilty of it.
Characters who are not the main character often go to extremes or do extreme things, and while the things done are normally played off as a joke, this manga takes those things seriously, which comes across as disjointed and uncanny.
And the fanservice is deliberate and too much, but oddly, this part is usually accompanied by the most relatable part of the main character: he gets distracted by breasts that are large and almost falling out. Who wouldn't get distracted? Unfortunately, this is treated as open pervertedness and not as romance, because as much as the female lead's body is appealing to him, and as forward as she is with him, he becomes unsure about getting into a relationship with her despite the fact seeing her breasts has pushed him into two major life decisions already. It's a bit backwards, if you ask me.
Personally, I don't think this one is worth staying for the long haul, especially since I've read some spoilers that reveal
the author didn't know what to do after the main character gets together with the female lead and begins turning it into a harem.
I don't think this story or these characters fit well with that.
