if you haven't figured out whether or not you like seo kouji yet, this one probably won't help. it's more of the same you've come to expect.

interesting to see the "one of the most important characters in the story is dead" device activated right from the get go this time instead of making the reader care more about them than anyone else and then killing them off.

I'm not exaggerating with the title btw, and if I wanted to refer to this work with a meme, we're seeing a "punished Seo Kouji" at his best, even a veteran mangaka has his redemption arc.

It's not the first time I read some Seo Kouji manga (the last one I read was Kimi no Iru Machi) and I know his way to write manga (too much drama, too much romcom, and too much rage inducing situations), but in this one, I've seen that the progress goes at a slower pace, which helps the story and the characters to have a more natural development. The way Seo usually writes a romcom is in the most forcing and generic way possible with all the existing and future tropes with annoying situations, with this manga, it's the complete opposite.

Yes, it must be admitted that the story begins in a generic way (unfortunately romcoms nowadays are born with that stigma, not even 100 kanojo gets away from this) and you can feel the Gotoubun influence at the start of the story, but as I said before, as the story progresses, it takes a unique direction, where the girls and the MC have their own conflicts, but, being together, they manage to solve them. If I had to rate Hayato, it's a 8/10, he has a strong personality, which helps him support his harem (and those outside of it), but not to the point of being a nuisance, but rather being an advisor and constantly supporting them from the shadows.

The harem, both main and secondary, is well written, to my surprise. Something that I loved the most is the support between them, as if they were a family (I'm more than sure that Seo Kouji read 100 kanojo before writing Megami Cafe, otherwise, I can't explain how he achieved such a balance of quality).

Up until the chapter where I'm writing this review (ch. 160), I can say that I'm reading a good harem, with a good balance of what this type of stories should have (outstanding comedy, slow pace romance, an interesting story, well-written characters and a decent cast). By far, it's the best thing Seo has written in his entire career as a mangaka. The first chapters are bland, but as it progresses, you'll find a good story, I can assure you as the "harem lover" that I consider myself.

The manga starts out generic, but as you continue through the manga, it somewhat becomrs more unique, by this I mean that mc knows that the girls like him and is nit really a dunce about it. In the begiging its just genric, but as you continue, its starts to take its own identity

Chapter 75 almost pulled a chapter 36 on us. I fucking hated how i nearly fell for it, if the author went ahead with it, I would have been mad

It's true that this is quite the generic harem romcom, but how does that equal a 1/10 rating😕?? If something is generic/average then it should definitely deserve at least a 5/10.

While it is a generic harem, I find it to be one the best harems that are currently ongoing. Now that I think about it I can't really explain why I like it as much, but I always find myself looking forwards to another chapter.

Another generic harem with constant accidental voyeurism, domestic abuse for laughs, and everyone acting completely unreasonable towards each other at every moment. This has the means to be good, but instead reaches for the cheap and annoying stuff.

While trope elements were always prominent in his work, they were still used in such a way to propel a complex narrative of interweaving emotions usually. Here though... It's about as generic as generic can be. There's a violent tsundere, a cool kuudere, a shy girl who gets brash when drunk, a genki girl, and a socially adept onee-san. None of these characters go beyond surface depth and there are no real paradigm shifts in the narrative or relations of these characters even after 100 chapters.
