Better in Vietnamese and Chinese

I read both the Vietnamese and English translations of the novel. It can't be helped that the English translation pales in comparison to the Vietnamese translations, after all, there are certain nuances in Chinese language (e.g. how you address people) that cannot be properly translated to English.
That aside, I think it would be more appropriate to identify Shuisheng Didi as a horror novel with homosexual undertones. This novel would have definitely garnered a lot more readership if the BL element was omitted. Be prepared to be scares s*** loads before reading the novel (though If you don't read the novel in one go and distract yourself, the scary effect would be greatly reduced. so don't do that)
The author did a really good job in describing the realistic emotions of people on the verge of death. She successfully dwelled on the dark side of human nature. Overall, this is definitely her best and most mature work so far!
