Yeah, the ML is messed up. Yes, the FL is not a 'strong' woman. But I loved it! The angst, the trauma, the drama - everything was such a mess but so satisfying at the same time?? This was not a healthy relationship AT ALL. The story is quite dark and the background of the characters, especially the ML, was so tragic. However, if you want your dose of angst+obsession, this manhwa just might be your cup of tea!

So, this story deviates a bit from your typical manhwa. Fair warning: if you're not looking to read about a disfunctional relationship with a dark, manipulative male lead, this might not be the right story for you. Then again, the story doesn't try to dress this as anything other than what it is: the monstrous result borne from a life of terrible trauma and mental and physical abuse -- and that's what drew me to it in the first place.

If there's something that can be said about this work, is that it's full of passion. Rather than the typical isekai story, where a downtrodden female lead gets a new chance at life, fulfilling every power fantasy its author might have, this manhwa (or webcomic?) does not make things easy for its characters. Each one, even the secondary ones, has great emotional depth, and the facial expressions convey a lot of emotion, as well. It constantly takes stabs at your heart, and does NOT pull any punches.

In the 27 chapters I've read, it's made me laugh -- and it's made me cry. And while it is true to female lead cries often, I, at least, can't help but sympathize with her. She's been dealt a pretty terrible hand, and what makes me like her is that -- yes, she cries a heck of a ton, but she also has a decisive personality, asserting her thoughts and feelings rather than letting herself be carried away by the circumstances.

The male lead is also interesting, and full of twisted personality. That's the thing, though: this manhwa doesn't dress this as "healthy and sweet". No, it's dark, it's raw -- they are obsessed with each other to a pathological point. Not something I would condone in real life, but as a story, it carries its themes wonderfully.

You know those useless knickknacks you accumulate over the course of your life? You plan to throw it away because you have no idea why you even have it in your house, yet for some reason you never throw the thing out.

Next thing you know 50 years have passed and it is still sitting in the same spot of your home sucking up valuable space, and you still have no idea why you haven't thrown it out! You FINALLY decide to make use of it and all it does now is suck up space in another spot and you still have no idea why you haven't thrown out such a useless item that you don't even want. That is this book in a nutshell.

Unfamiliar territory

I thought this was another girl who got isekai-ed into a story book, falls in love with prince charming and meets all the characters in the book. Isekai shoujo genres never have much substance; it's almost always very predictable and super cliche, but this one is a black sheep! Although she's the epitome of a weak and weepy female lead, the male lead is the one that keeps the story going. Making him out to be the villain from the get go was an ingenious move. He's a little psycho and definitely traumatized from his past. I love that we hear both of their inner thoughts. You see how he slowly becomes obsessive over her, sort of like a child vying for his mother's attention. It's an interesting plot. A tragedy really...not exactly sure I want to dive deep into this, but I got sucked in because of the art.

The story is interesting and the art is beautiful which makes this an entertaining read. But the heroine is your typical drooping damsel who turns on her waterworks with more frequency than even then famous Trevi Fountain. She knows the plot of the novel but cannot seem to be doing anything about it. And the hero is a psychopath plain and simple, who you sympathise with because he has a tragic back story and is drop dead gorgeous.

Okay ML's background is probably one of the saddest backgrounds I've read. Wow. I'm really happy with where the story is going. FL do your thing and shower ML with all your love. I'm a sucker for broken ML and savior FLs.
