This work so good, that i want to forget that i ever read it and it exists. For a single reason - that having something great but not finished, are a lot worse then having bazillion other bad and trashy works.
It is a must for reading, but as i said, you end in limbo because its not completed.

I won't rank it, since I'm always crude about stories that will never have an ending. If author never cared to finish, why should I dance around it and talk about feelings and what it meant. The only part that mattered to me was only my punk Nana. Don't idealize a manga that has no ending, the author could have wasted it all too. Wait, they basically wasted it anyway since it's not a finished product.
This manga has one of the most interesting female character I've ever seen, but also the most annoying female character to balance the budget.
I HATE Nana (Hachi). I honestly dislike her so much as a character you have no idea. She annoys me, I don't find any good traits about her, she also collected all the possible traits you would dislike in the female character. I could understand if she was a side-kick, but she's unfortunately not. And also I find her CHEAP. She's not a girl anymore, but she was swayed in a second by the flashy man and spread her legs so fast, if she had time she would also make a neon sign with arrow pointing - this way. I mostly remember anime than manga, but she honestly was so happy in her golden cage, knowing damn well that most of the time her fate is to watch her "husband" on TV and not enjoy happy married life she was actually striving for. I can understand the heartbreak from the first relationship, but then she basically couldn't decide where to run, or which man to cling to. I find that she heartlessly and carelessly broke heart of good men who cared for her. Though in modern world a good portion of ladies would applaude her, since she managed to get pregnant from a wealthy man to live a good life. She was always more of a mascot to me, a gadget, well, she ended up like she acted.
On the contrary Nana Osaki is what I liked the most about it. Rebellious spirit, passionate heart. She is music. Her life wasn't as pampered as Hachi, her love had thorns, but at least with her you knew what is love and what is a career. Through her relationship you could truly feel what it's like wanting to be together, but also realizing how hard it is to be in-between music you love and the man you love. It's way more complicated and way more touching. I wish she would be a solo person in this manga tbh, but I understand it's asking the impossible.
PS: Nana anime managed to have one of the most fantastic OSTs throughout the years tbh, I'm still amazed by how good it is.

There's something so raw and real about this manga. The first time I read it, I was 15 and I was heartbroken with Nana(hachi) no rereading it as an adult I feel like I understand the manga a lot better. It's very bittersweet and the expressions in the artwork are soul moving, so full of passion and sadness. Honestly if you have yet to read, please do so.

I have read this manga many times over and every time I do it still gives me all the same feels. Though this series is still incomplete it is still worth the read because Ai Yazawa is such an amazingly talented mangaka. The art is just perfect and her style is always unique. I love reading all her works.

Everyone hates on nana (dog) and I can understand why. However, what bothers me, is regardless of all the guys that she’s crushed, they all stay friends with her in the end like it’s no big deal. If a girl did to me what she did to what’s his name, I could never speak to her again as long as I live. By remaining friends, all it does is keep you from getting over it and moving on. That’s a trait that’s always bothered me in manga. Couples will break up, but then the next day they’re best friends like the relationship never even happened. In real life when people break up, they don’t normally hang around each other.

The punk Nana has a very romantic "soulmate" type romance going on (even though it's riddled with dark themes). Meanwhile the cliche shoujo heroine Nana is human garbage that deserves to burn in hell, crushed by the various hearts of good men that she's broke throughout the course of the story.
I'd say Takumi deserves hell as well, but anything less than total atomic deletion is far too kind for that asshole Gary Stu. That personality-less manipulative scumbag literally NTR'd the shitty Nana in like 3 pages and successfully ruined every single page that shitty Nana appears in from then on (like 65% of the manga). Shitty Nana was fine until she got involved with him and became some kind of kept Yamato Nadeshiko wife addicted to his crotch. Her entire character from the beginning (as well as a central theme) was based around the concept of "becoming independent". She does the fucking opposite and leaves the only mutual love relationship she'd ever be capable of getting for some shit spewed by a possessive rich guy.

I just wanted to remind myself to stay away from this. As you can read this is an amazing manga, one of the best i've ever had the pleasure to read. It's been years since i read this, and i have forgotten most of it, but i can assure you the feelings that come to me when i think of this manga kill me every time, leaving me with a mix of something not nice, something that depressed me to such extend that my memory supressed most of it. This would not have happened if this mangaka at least tried to make an ending, even a rushed one would've been nice... but everything was left in the middle of a big F#$%& crisis!... I'm weak, sorry. please be happy and do not read this, it will cause you to feel powerless, sad, empty and your superwoman will overcome everything though may vanish a bit..

If you're reading this review, I'm sure you have read a few others on their take on Nana. I'm here to provide another perspective to this story (or maybe add to someone else's). If you choose to read this story, I should warn you to expect to feel all kinds of emotions. You laugh, cry, hate, pity, and every other feeling you can insert in here. I believe the reason to such emotions is the depth of the characters and how realistic this story is.
I just adore the complication of these characters. This is real life. These characters don't just have two sides like in a shoujo (no offense- I love shoujo too), they have layers and the further you get into the story, you are revealed more and more about them. Not only do they have layers, they progress and grow. To me, that's so important to a successful story. I want to believe that time is passing naturally and they are growing because that is real life--we are not the same people we were yesterday.
With that being said, there are people who loathe a character or a few. Yes, there are a few characters I'm not found of at times but that happens in every story right? I don't think I've read a story that was actually of importance that didn't have a character I didn't like. I think this is what drives some hate towards this manga. I'm telling you people, this is what life is like. You like people one minute, you hate them the next. If you can't tell, I love the reality she brings to this story. Yes, when I'm crying because of something that happened and I hate her for it, this means she succeeded in drawing me into the story.
To me, I feel like I could see these characters on the street. That's how well I feel I know them at this point. I love this manga for allowing me to feel as many emotions as I do with the sting of reality. If you need a break from all the positive-outlook-the-sun-is-shinning-let's-go-skip-in-a-meadow-of-flowers manga, give this a hit. Definitely a manga I revisit and re-read and redevelop my emotions. Okay, I'm done. Gosh this was long. I wish the hiatus was over. It kills me that I don't know what will happen next. Also, check out the anime if you have a chance. Follows the story really well.

As you can see the story is in hiatus, and I've went to many different forums saying that this author will never pick it back up and complete it. I read NANA without knowing all of that. I can honestly tell you i regret my decision. I'm not sure what other people think but i really don't know how this story would have ended. There were a few possibilities so i was really up set, felt like i wasted my time. All in all it really wasn't bad though i thought the art was unique and the story line as well. But the fact that it didn't end over rules all of that for me, and i felt like i had just wasted my time....
