I really love BL manga that focuses on a group of friends and their relationships with each other, platonic, romantic and otherwise. This manga vaguely reminds me of Happy Birthday by ymz, another manga that places just as much importance in the non-romantic relationships between the characters as much as it does in the romantic ones. It's just such a joy seeing each other the characters interact with one another and seeing the natural chemistry between them all. I was waiting for the professor's backstory and unfortunately didn't get it. oh well.
The characters truly shine in this piece and they are all expertly crafted. Despite being such a short piece, I feel like I got to know each one quite well and delighted in their developments. I agree with OmNom in that the first story was stronger than the second, only because Yuki's character development was slightly lacking. I felt like I know him loads as a person, but I still didn't quite understand the reasons he accepted Tokio so readily. Also, the culmination to their story felt a little stunted. It needed a few more pages, in my opinion. Or maybe a chapter to develop them as a couple more. Either way, reading their story was still a delight.
Definitely going to look for more of this mangaka's works now!
This manga is quite unlike what you normally get in BL in many aspects, from the structure to the delivery and even down to the art, and I don't dislike it at all. I actually prefer the first story to the second one (title story), but they both have their merits that I can appreciate. The mangaka's style reminds me a lot of Hideyoshico's, especially her art, so I guess it's no surprise that I have a fondness for it.
