I find the golem really cute and the dynamic between the mc and it/her is nice but it kind of feels like the golem is an excuse for the mc to be useless. While it doesn't shine through as much in the manga adaptation as it would in the novel, the mc is kinda stupid, weak-willed, dense and self-deprecating. In many ways, he appears to be exactly what people don't like about cliché shounen protagonists. I can already see him vowing never to kill any human and letting villains go after they try to kill him, although that's just the vibe I'm getting here.

In these 2 volumes, nothing much happened, really. The mc pretty much just goes with the flow and has no clear goal, plan or desires, he also trusts someone he just met all too easily. He needs to be screwed over by nearly dying and nearly having his companion die before he gets reality checks on even obvious things like that the world is dangerous, because obviously that was too hard to grasp before that.

The location he was at during the beginning, or rather the fact that it was "undiscovered" makes little sense too. After running into obstacles, he never stops to think about them, like the shadow demon he met right after exiting his first safe spot, seems that pondering and reaching common sense conclusions is a tad bit beyond the capacity of this guy's IQ. His powers are kinda dull as well, at least so far, he just lucked out that ALL ENEMIES he met so far seems to use the only element he can control and thus he survived, yay.

If this was longer than 2 volumes, I don't know if it'd be worth reading. But these 2 volumes were enjoyable enough at scratching that isekai fantasy self-insert itch thanks to the cute elf-like golem and her cute actions. I wouldn't care to try reading the novel for more content though, it's bound to be a lot worse if all these issues already shine through in the manga adaptation where most crap is cut out.
