I can't bring myself to give this anything more than a 5/10 for average. Sorry, that's just how it is. It just wasn't that funny nor was it very interesting, I found myself skimming/speed reading after a while just to finish it, that's how bad it could get at times. The only really interesting thing going on was the references to sora no otoshimono since this is set in a, maybe, parallel dimension(or the same one?) 5-6 years after sora no otoshimono, especially since we get to see eishirou sugata a lot(in the flesh) and we also see Mikako Satsukitane(in the flesh, over the phone etc) and ikaros(as a statue), there's a high possibility of seeing other people such as tomoki sakurai since he's mentioned, sadly we don't get to know what really happened, at least not until very close to the end(after reading 5 of 7 volumes, nothing of note has been mentioned). That's literally the only truly good part here, but that alone isn't enough to give this a higher score.
It's just a story about some weird desertification happening to the world, presumably caused by the synapse or something and then we have a few wacky characters with an innocent elementary school mc magical girl that has panties and a pig as a familiar and whatever comes along with that. A few jokes did hit home, but they were rare and most of the time, I just didn't even feel like reading it. The characters aren't really that interesting and it's truly lacking something compared to his other works, even that golf manga he made was better, I can't quite put my finger on it, but perhaps it's just that the harmony and bond between the characters feels weird, it just doesn't work and pretty much all jokes miss their target.
That it's pretty much half serious and half comedy doesn't help either, this author was never good at drama or tragedy after all, not to mention that this type of comedy+drama just doesn't go together no matter who the author is, one needs to choose one or the other, otherwise it's like combining curry and ice cream, freaking disgusting and void of common sense. I mean wow, just basic things like where the hell they get their fresh food from when everything around them is desert makes it impossible to take seriously, they still have a normal society going while being isolated, be it school life, markets, money, food, relationships or whatever else. Then there's all the other parts, like the ridiculous events, panty and pig familiars etc which makes it even more impossible to take seriously. So, making it serious in any way was just a big mistake, too bad, but that's what caused this to be merely mediocre.
