(Ch. 19)
The art is great, the character designs are appealing (both male and female, young and old), and the story has a ton of potential as long as the author doesn't artificially extend the story in the future—and this author has been above average in previous stories I've read from them, so there's hope.
A touch too much fanservice, but otherwise I don't see too many issues with it in that regard.
Honestly, I'm both excited and terrified because most of what's happened so far has been excellent, but there is one glaring plot point (that could be okay if resolved fast enough) and one potential future issue that I see happening (as of chapter 19):
One of the characters, from the main character's original country, who has feelings for the main character, is turned into a slave. But instead of forcing himself upon her, he wants to humiliate her in a different way—by making her fight for something she doesn't believe in.
It's actually difficult to believe this, considering the personality of the person she's now under, but not impossible because of the circumstances. Still, this didn't need to happen, or at least, this could be resolved well if she decides to be smart (and she has been shown to be smart, and we've been told she's a great general) and run away to the country the main character is in. And the reason she's fighting for the country she's currently in is, as far as I'm concerned, no longer good enough to keep her there. She's smart and decisive enough to know better. If she doesn't run away, I'll drop the rating of this story, because the story is building her up as a major character and, if she just stays in the country she's currently at, that's sacrificing a major character for the sake of forced drama... and stories that do that usually end up repeating that mistake until the story is dead.
The not-current-but-potential issue I have with this story is how the main character is written in a seemingly monogamous way, but the story really wants the harem. Tales of Wedding Rings tried to do both and threw away all good will I had for the story because it refused to land on either side (and because romance was the core element of the story). The main character's romance, or at least his awareness of romance happening to him, needs to start increasing soon. It's not yet bad, and one thing has happened that could be the start of fixing this issue, but I really don't want the story to keep the main character dumb about who's into him for much longer.
And even if this becomes a harem, I want to see more male characters become integral parts of the story.
But that's not yet an issue.
So, all in all, I can say I currently enjoy the story and think there's potential for this to be in the top 10 percent of stories in its genre (high fantasy). As a romance, if the main character gets married to the queen, or if the story fully embraces the harem and the main character actually takes them to bed (preferably off-screen), then it'll be one of the best in the fantasy/romance genre combination. There's still some other flaws, but none of those have the potential to take me out of the story like the ones I mentioned above.
As long as the fanservice isn't too much for you, give it a try.
