Description
Beings from a different dimension have started a war with mankind. To counter this threat, an academy called "Genetics" that trains female warriors called "Pandora," who can wield special weaponry and armor, was formed. Kazuya Aoi decided to enroll in this school because of a promise with his sister, an outstanding alumna who died in battle. There he meets second year Satellizer el Bridget, nicknamed "The Untouchable Queen" due to her solitary demeanor but also top of her class whose battle simulation streak is undefeated, until he came and slowly changed her.

It's decent

It's got a pretty bad story, not to mention the actual storytelling. But I like it somewhat nonetheless, and will continue reading it. Artwork is good, but most of the characters look very similar so it's hard to know who's who. Aside from them being hard to tell apart, it's just annoying that the author can't think of a different character design for different people. The novas look like crap as well.

I do like the main characters a bit however... The artwork and the decent fight scenes are only good for a 6 in the end though. I will keep reading it, because it's entertaining somehow anyway, and I want to find out what happens to them. But I wouldn't really recommend it to anyone. Unless of course you're into fanservice and hardcore girl-on-girl fights. bigrazz

Has its flaws

One of the things I keep reading in these reviews is that this manga had a lot of potential. I definitely think so myself. The mangaka gives the background of what would ordinarily be the focus of the manga, but then he neglects it to do fanservice and show a bunch of girls acting like they're in high school. Meanwhile, we only read that the Nova have appeared numerous times and generally wreaked havoc and killed many people, but this is never portrayed strongly enough. I don't get the feeling of a society threatened by extinction. I get a sense of "look at us, we're in high-school being total bitches to each other. *Novas invade* Oh yeah, that's what we're here for! *invasion defeated after much carnage* Yay! Back to more high school!" But the Novas seems to be the last of this mangaka's concerns; his focus is on the interpersonal relationships of the Pandoras and their limiters, especially on Stella's tortured psyche and tragic background, into which he has delved no shallow amount as of chapter 46. And although this is developed while other aspects of the setting, such as the Nova menace, are left mostly unexplored (are they merely incomprehensible higher beings? If so, why do they want to destroy Earth's population? To take Earth and its resources? What the hell is going on here?), the mangaka has drawn at least me into his main characters, made me hate them, sympathize with them, cheer for them, hope for them, cry for them. This arc with her half-brother is truly infuriating (how can Stella's older sister be that ridiculously stupid? Why can't Kazuya sense that something is seriously wrong?). The latest chapters have been released late, and after reading them I can't go to sleep. This is good, insofar as I'm engaged in the story, and counts positively toward the rating.

However, aside from this psychologically rich (if sometimes psychologically implausible) storyline, the background feels a bit contrived to me. Why is Genetics run like a boarding school with a dumbfounding lack of oversight when the attendees possess such potent abilities and powers? The warriors behave like they're high-school girls because they're treated that way. Sure, it creates drama, but it's completely unbelievable.

All things considered, the background is a bit like Claymore. There's an inhuman menace that is fought using specially trained girls whose powers derive from elements from that same menace. Claymore's plot centers mainly on the conflict between the Claymores and the evil forces, but the Claymores don't feel human; as far as character development goes, many of them feel like shells of humans (although several of the actual main characters are not one-sided). Freezing is the opposite, but a lot of the supporting characters still feel one-dimensional. But not to say that Freezing should essentially be Claymore. Everything, the character development and backstories, the Nova, and the love story aspects should all be there in a well-ballanced, harmonious symphony.

For all of its flaws, I'm still optimistic that the story can only get deeper as it progresses. Chapter 46 is still be too early a point to pass judgment completely, and I'm looking forward to finding out how well this series will mature.

This manga (manhwa?) is kinda depressing. It just oozes potential, really - you have a nice setup, a great world, a possible plot with Space Aliens and Pretty Girls Who Fight Them, so much potential to be something great and something more. Even the dialogue flows well and the art is excellent.

And what does it do? It limits itself to highschool drama for 25 chapters. The plot does start flowing after that, but having to plow through all the fanservice tends to the tedious side of things.

Panos: Seriously? I thought Louis said that he'd never slept with his woman. How can that be her?

I really like Young's works

I don't care what anyone else says about young's works. I remember how happy I was when the new chapter of UxU came out. After that went on hiatus, I discovered he had numerous other manhwas, and read them all. Gotta say I enjoyed them all so far (except Zero, whose ending left me going what is this i don't even) I wish i could read moonrunes, because although only up to chapter 41 has been scanlated, raws for chapters 7,8,9 are available...although i can surmise whats happening from the pictures, it nervewracking. Oh, and I discovered the Freezing anime two days ago, watched it, and found it to be much like the Elfen Lied anime, by which I mean that it only covers a small part of the beginning of the manga. I liked it, found the OP and ED songs to be ballin, tits, ass, ripped clothes, u name it, it has it. I just wish Young would work on one manhwa at a time in order to avoid such long hiatuses!!!!!!

In the future that is somehow the Past

I dislike this manga. The characters either act like its japan or its aristocratic europe. Shit makes no sense. It's also a lot heavier on girl on girl fighting than I was led to believe. The women don't seem to wear combat clothes and they don't look physically like you'd expect soldiers to, and that is why I don't like it(along with a bad plot with bad characters).

Here's why you (random passerby) might like it: You may like the designs of the women. You might like to see "sexy" women fighting, you may like to see "sexy" women fighting brutally. That alone may spark an interest in this manga, so check it out if that appeals to you.

The Battles, the Characters, and the Story, interwoven, asides from its ecchi ( I don't even thought about that when reading it ), I was totally absorbed and caught off guard reading how the story flows ). It may become an epic reading. I enjoyed it a lot, and it's totally detailed work. Thanks to the author smile

Has potential to go big... :D

Well, the "Okay" character designs, Satellizer's tsundere-ness and intro reeled me into reading this manga. (Intro reminded me of Mamoru-kun ni Megami no Shukufuku wo! lol). Plus, I was interested I couldn't pass up a manga of Im Dal Young biggrin

The story was quite bland on the first couple of volumes I guess... but so were Hitman Reborn, Onani Master, and some other popular or highly rated mangas! They didn't start off with a bang but slowly laid out the foundations needed for the manga's plot development in the future chapters. I believe(or gamble? ;D) that the author of Freezing is trying to do the same.
Here are some of the + and - things notices in the manga:

- Some translation inconsistencies like Axel and Accel, Cassie and Cathy.

- The characters are often forgettable because they lack backgrounds and unique personalities.

- The details/explanations/elaborations of skills/historical events/rituals are sometimes given some chapters waaaay later.

+ Has Tsundere female lead, fanservices and school romance = Sugar, Spice and Everything nice! =D

+ There is a switch in atmosphere from "light & comedic" to "Dark & serious" a few times in the manga. This gives rest to all those catfights going on xD

+ The story gets deeper and shows more substance in the 4th volume. A definite sign that the author has come up with an epic plot ^_^

Overall, this was a "good" and worthwhile manga for me. I am looking forward to the development of the story and more of tsundere-ness of Satellizer. This manga has the potential to become popular if the author plays it right...
