The story is a bit rushed (because it needs to fit in a volume) and therefore lacks some building up that would make their relationship more credible, but the intended plot is good.
I'm really not fond of Fujii's art style but to each it's own.

ONE OF THE BEST MANGAS I'VE READ: SEME ISN'T PUSHY, SEME ISN'T A FKING ASSHOLE, SEME WOULD ACTUALLY CRY FOR THE UKE, UKE NOT BEING AN ANNOYING TSUNDERE, UKE TRYING TO TURN OVER A NEW LEAF FOR HIM AND FOR THE SEME. WHAT MORE COULD YOU ASK FOR?? THIS IS QUITE UNDERRATED. THIS MIGHT NOT BE A PERFEFT 10, BUT THE MANGA'S REPUTATION DESERVES MORE!!!

And why is it that a lot of people is annoyed by a "gay for you" type of character?? It's not really cheesy bc it's the reality for some. So what if the character is "only gay" for his lover? It's not an occasional thing in the yaoi world, but it's not rare either. Why are some of the commenters talk as if this is the only manga that has that kind of character.

What I love about this manga is how certain problems were dealt with accordingly. Like when his father was rejecting his son, the lawyer didn't lash out to the father like any irritable seme would. Instead, he comforted Rin and stayed by his side! It's like, a realistic reaction and it's wayy better and the other type of reaction. Also, when someone raped Rin, it was my first time to encounter a manga that actually dealt with the situation in a realistic approach like going to the hospital and have him have a check up. If it happened on a mediocre manga, the seme could've done it with the uke after he was raped to make him feel "clean".

I love how this was delivered. It may not be perfect, but this manga deserves better.

I can't comprehend the arguments between the previous comments below; imo one should be free to love whomever they want regardless of how others label them, so what's wrong with a guy caring for only one other guy who happens to be of the same gender? Just because he's never had the experience of loving another man, just because people regard him as 'straight', he's not allowed to care for the love of his life whom he's never met before and therefore didn't realise that he's capable of loving beyond what society expects him to?

So regarding this manga's theme, there's nothing questionable or too 'clichéd' here. On the other hand, the problem is its development might need a little bit of tweaking to make it perfect. Other than that I think this is a fairly all right piece of work; some of the characters' inner-dialogues are much more thoughtful and in depth than meet the eye. The artwork is pretty okay as well, not my favourite but acceptable.

I kind of wish the story developed Matsuno's and Rin's relationship more before it got into the entire "I love you and wanna marry/adopt you" thing. A slow romance between those two would have been best, but that's not exactly possible with how many volumes there are. But it might have been a slow romance in canon since Matsuno did mention Rin not staying over for like a month, but I wish the author took more time developing their romantic feelings for each other. It felt pretty abrupt, especially from Matsuno.

But I especially like how the story touches upon STDs and how rape is never your fault regardless of whether you're a prostitute or not. I especially liked the analogies that Matsuno used since they touch upon both prostitution (storekeeper selling fruit) and having lots of sex (philanthropist donating lots of money). Like in general it was pretty realistic. The only unrealistic thing about the story is how far Matsuno provided for Rin. Granted I understand his sentiments since if I came across a kid prostituting themselves since they didn't have any other options, I would wanna help them. The only difference is that Matsuno actually goes through with it so unrealistic yes, but props to him.

The plot is pretty average, but the way the author dealt with Rin's circumstances, STDs, prostitution, rape, etc really makes it worth reading in my opinion. Like you don't see this a lot in most BL mangas, which just makes this all the more important. People ranking this story low just because there's a "i'm gay only for you" cliche, more like ya big dumbdumbbbbbbs.

If you've sifted through tons and tons of crappy yaoi, you've seen this trope over and over again.

I think this is the only one of this trope that I actually really like.

There are things that bother me, of course... And for a straight guy to legitimately fall for another man requires a lot more build-up than a single tankoubon would allow. Not to mention I cringe at girly-looking uke that cry during sex. The manga does acknowledge that gay sex requires more preparation than front-door sex, but it seems to forget it later on, as Matsuno doesn't seem to have any problems. That, and there's very little reason for Matsuno to fall for Rin. Oh, and the bonus sidestory with the animal ears was ridiculous and asinine.

On the other hand, considering the page-limit, it was still told more realistically than most crappy yaoi manga, so I have to give it credit there. To give notice to HIV risks.

And to the first commenter--so one of them's straight--so what? Mangaka usually don't make characters straight in BL manga because they don't want to believe there are people who cannot be attracted to women (hello, Rin's gay), they make him straight because they think it's romantic that love can overcome gender differences (or lack thereof) or preferences. Most people aren't 100% straight or gay. Exceptions happen more often than you think. The problem is that straight people tend to be fickle--and the important thing is to make sure it's not an illusion.

Also, confirms my suspicion of the adoption = marriage for some gay couples. For some reason, I find that really moe...

So I consider this flawed, but the best of its trope that I know of or remember. (On a different topic, I wanted to bring up another interesting hustler character--Hunter from Queer as Folk was a male prostitute who started living that lifestyle from being coerced into it by his mother. He's HIV+ and is eventually adopted by Ben (also HIV+) and Michael. Hunter turns out to be straight when he falls for a girl in his class, surprisingly. Ben and Michael got married in Canada, btw. I yearn for more realistic gay portrayals in BL manga. Then again, there'll never be a show like QAF again... sob...)

Also, as someone who is actually pansexual, I wanted to note to the previous commenter that Matsuno is NOT pansexual. = _= He is mostly straight. Just because he is in love with a guy, he's still straight--at most bi. Ok? Don't misuse terms you don't understand.

I found this very enjoyable. And I think there's nothing to be annoyed about the "gay for you" part as I dont think that is what happened. Its just that the seme thought he was straight but in actual he is "Pansexual" just not aware of it. Basically It means he likes someone for who they are in soul and mind not for what gender they are. Just like if you were "straight" but the one youre in love with suddenly turned into the same gender as you you would still love them if you were really in love with them. This story is about Matsuno and Rin falling in love with each other, not just a self-assuming straight man falling in love with another man. So I guess Im saying if your alright with homosexuals (which Im assuming you are as this manga is yaoi) why then discriminate against pansexuals?
This series was really cute and fluffy but that wasn't the only thing it had. I think it managed to stay quite realistic and the feelings of the MC's are easy to relate to. It wasn't just some brainless BL but was also quite deep and inspiring if you bother looking for it. I found the ratings lower than it should be and despite me normally finding them reliable, this time I dont think they are.
The plot was actually quite touching showing how they were willing to make changes for each other. It was nice how Matsuko took him in without any other motives except to show kindness and it was a somewhat gradual change/realization of feelings which made it seem more genuine.

I read the previous comments and mostly agreed with them, okay manga with okay plot, cute and used to pass the time---- except I think that the whole "gay for you" concept doesn't have to be taken as a objection to there being gay men who don't like girls. That's absurd since it has nothing to do with that and is more likely just the mangaka's ideas come to life (also an unreasonable conclusion since one of the main characters is a gay man who does not like girls). That leaves no reason to call it "garbage".
Secondly, even though it does have the "gay for you" concept, i think the mangaka did want to hint that the supposed "straight" guy was slightly gay already (also concluded to be possible according to Alfred Kinsey and his associates that created the Kinsey Scale ). Based off the manga, even though the bar is technically a "non-gay" bar too, there are hints that that is NOT necessarily true. This is what I took from it, so I did not enjoy the bashing I first saw when i read certain reviews.

The "gay for you" concept in this manga was really bugging me plus the plot is closer to reality than other yaoi mangas out there (which is also great). I just wish the plot was more excitable you know? I wouldn't say that this manga is boring but it's just too plain or average with cliche scenes. I really don't like it when there is prostitution involved because I always think of 'sloppy seconds' or in this case, 'sloppy days' or 'sloppy a few days later'. Don't get me wrong here, if they take it really, really slow... then I'm all for it, but like that's ever gonna happen.

I am not satisfied with the story because its as way too cheesy for me. I woudn't say garbage though. It's neither good or bad. It's just a manga to pass time with. Plot is weak, but there are moments where the dialogue is terrific to read (example:

y is that this author always make these "straight" characters, its like she doesn't want to accept that there are men out there who are not and can not in any possible conceivable way be physical and sexually attracted to a women, if your tired of the story lines "im straight but if its with you" like me then please save the time out of your life and do not read this garbage
