I had quite a bit of fun reading this, no doubt it deserves an 8/10 in my mind. It was kept short enough to not get old as well before it ended. It's just about a dense sword lover going on a journey for hero-level "imperial" swords in order to create his own, just that these swords have souls and can turn into women.
The comedy mainly comes from the main character being dense about romance yet extremely passionate about swords and maintaining them. He's a bit weird and his actions often unexpected, while the first sword he gets was actually forced along, pedestal and all, and is a bit grumpy about it, being a tsundere. But even she falls for his techniques even if she doesn't want to admit it.
Really, it has nothing that special, the story isn't special either. It's just a collection of small stories in a rough chronological timeline where they in an episodic fashion do this or that along the journey, from tasting food to him trying to strip her of her "panties" in human form, which is equivalent to taking off her pedestal. It's pretty heartwarming and fun yet also erotic.
However, I did NOT like the ending even if it was meant to be positive and touching. It just felt like a kick between the legs and left me feeling a bit empty and sad because I felt betrayed, so I'm lowering the score from 9/10 to 8/10.
Heavy spoilers for ending, I personally don't think it matters much in a story like this since it's short and not something that makes a huge difference as the journey is the big part, but read at your own risk since I'm partially spoiling the ending.
It ends with him obviously creating an imperial sword and it's hinted at that he has created many more after that. Then the epilogue, we see his descendant manning the workshop after 400 years and all the swords being present, including the imperial sword, and how the new imperial sword is used for the hero against the demon king and how all pay respects at their graves, clearly missing him and we see a family photo of him, his childhood friend and 2 kids. I absolutely hate endings like this. It's supposed to be a nice wrap-up but who the heck wants to see the main character dead? I want to see the main character alive in the epilogue, their journey continuing or maybe them at their peak after quite a few years. Also, the childhood friend sucked, she was boring and barely even present, it would've been so much better if he got into a romantic relationship with his imperial swords, even better would be if he somehow got to live a long life with them, it's a fantasy world, god damn use it to increase the mc's lifespan so he can keep them company. Nah, just summing it all up with the mc dead and missed god damn sucks, one chapter he just finished his his greatest life goal, the next he's god damn offed. Sigh.
But, really, a nice read nonetheless. Recommended. I think the epilogue is better unread though.
