Innocent Blue

Description

Mizuhara Kana is staying together with his cousin, Shuuya. Kana has a weak heart and Shuuya has been taking care of him. Somehow, Kana felt like a bird locked in a cage and hoped to have some breathing space. A coincidental meeting with the transfer student, Aoi Rin, changed Kana’s life. He fell head over heels into this first love. The mysterious Aoi taught him about the freedom outside the cage, but the risk that came along with this freedom could cost Kana’s life. The love story of a bird flying out of the cage during the summer, will Shuuya rescue Kana in time?

Love and Hate

This one is fascinating. The sexual imagery is very light, but does have strong angsty scenes. Less is More philosophy in this story's scenes: both art and words. The art is very sketchy, wispy-like, and ethereal (think: Il Gatto Sul G). It played well with this story. The scanlation is beautifully and competently done.

The Love: The complexity of the characters and the distinctly different perspectives they have that guide their behaviour was awesome! The intricate, yet simple words and art and scene choices, wove together beautiful to make the 'surprise' agenda believable yet not predictable.

The Hate: Wah! SO underdeveloped in KEY scenes. Although it is angsty, it's spotted angst. Where there should be HUGE angst, it's la-la-la. Shuu - what's goin' on with him? The last couple chapters? Fail. It would have been better to end mysteriously, open-ended, rather than some cliche, unexplained hope.

Overall: It makes you think. Did Aoi really ever love Kana? Does Kana really love Aoi? It made me think of my own choices to make situational judgement calls or personality attribution judgement calls.

A little bit dark and disturbing but also sweet

After the 2nd chapter it becomes clear that this isn't your usual love and jealousy type of yaoi... it's going to be going far more on the bitter, disturbing side of things.
I like how it starts and I got to feel with Kana pretty quickly and while I didn't like Shuu at first, I started hating Rin so much.
I enjoyed how the story slowly unfolds and you can't help but suspecting bad bad things...
I seriously hate Rin more and more with everything he does, especially

the rape scene, having your lover sit behind you holding you so others can rape you...wow what a brutal scene. I'm not sure what to think of their reunion later because of how Rin treated Kana, but I accept it because I know a lot of people would act that way. It's just a fact that people, no matter how bad their partner treats them, would still do anything for them.
I feel bad for Kana having to go through all that pain on top of being sick... he really would have deserved better.
While i liked the ending (I just like big happy endings lol) and I also didn't mind that he got together with Rin in the end again, I also feel a bit unsatisfied in that department.... as Rin ever apologized for being a jerk and doing all those horrible things to Kana?! He really got away too easy. .
The art is a bit beginner-ish, seeing as this is listed as the artists only work, I don't know what she usually does but the art doesn't seem that refined here; it's definitely good enough though.

This is definitely not for the faint of heart. Do not read this if you dislike characters being mistreated, abused both emotionally and physically, played with and all that... it is rather disturbing!

i've never a character more than i've hated Kana.
he is just too weak.i hate this story.....its too cliched,i mean the whole revenge thing does nothing for me anymore....so i stoped at chapter 6 cos i almost died of boredom reading that

Ugh...I hate Rin! His actions towards Kana is totally inexcusable...you'll find out later on...
But sigh it's yaoi, it's going to have a good ending...unless labeled tragedy...
I prefer Shuu over Rin personally, but if Shuu was in between...I don't know if it would've been different. I guess Shuu is more like the brotherly type to Kana, but eh~ there's definitely someone better for him then Kana...that little innocent bird stuck in a cage that was created for his own benefit...
The art is nice, very befitting for this manga and well... 🙂 I enjoyed it even after Rin being the SoB he is lololololol
I'm rating this a 9 because...well overlooking all the major flaws in this manga, making the story come to life definitely takes a lot of work. I liked the beginning but the middle got real shit-tah~

How could it just end like that?

I was so stocked on how things would end up when I read the first few pages. Firstly, regarding the seme's reason for his "revenge", I disagree on others saying it was miniscule. Aoi's world consisted of only him and his mother. You can't help despise the family who rejected you while welcoming someone else (on top of that someone ill..who's more of a "burden). So i'm defending the seme solely on his reason for revenge. Other than that, I think he was a complete ahole. When he brought Kana to that pub and watched as those jerks tried to rape him I wanted to f*ing punch him! I swear, no character has ever infuriated me so much. I've read other stories where one of the protagonist was a bad guy but this went too far. I'm disappointed cause I really wish that could've been excluded. Even though they still ended up together, how are readers suppose to be convinced that Aoi actually loves Kana? Cause of the ending? Don't go giving me "worrying" as a reason cause any person would have done the same if they saw someone collapse infront of them. Dont give me "sex" as another too, cause we all know that's not good enough. Never once did he even tell Kana he loved him. When he did, it was utter BS. I'm sure the way the story flowed it was suppose to imply that Aoi was in love with him despite the revenge. But seriously, if you were trying to imply something with contradicting actions you could've used WORDS.. dialogue, quotes, POV! And what was the 4 years all about? Aoi's retribution ??? You could say, but for all I know we are just "assuming" that. His disappearance was actually never explained.

As for the uke, I've actually got no complains. Typical uke so it was expected. Plus he had the illness, he was trying to live with no regrets. He didnt have time to be mad. So I think following Aoi was a good (not the best) choice. I just wish that when they were at the beach, he would've said some cliche line that would've made the seme regret what he did. But gah, instead he wakes up and is left with a sea-shell as a "remembrance".

Ugh, I was really frustrated with the story as I read on. I just kept on reading cause I was hoping for a satisfying ending. But they give me a cliche omake. Was I suppose to just go say "yay! happy ending!" (-_-) It's a pitty that the art's beautiful..the way it was drawn gave of that melancholic feeling which fits. But I seriously wouldn't re-read this. And I won't recommend it to anyone. You'll just anger yourself..like me lol who got too into it. Btw, my raiting's solely on the plot itself. There were parts that made me cry (while saying "what a jerk") so i'm giving that points. I mean, if a story can extract an emotion from a reader then it's worth a point. The uke's the reason for my added 0.5. LOL he was cute so whatever. Anyway, if I were to rate the art though I would've given a 10 of course.

I've gotta admit, I read this series only because of the reviews.
And well, those reviews were proven to be somewhat true, but a liiiiiittle untrue. (just a little.)

@thismomentisfate. Oh, and yes, i did read this manga. I'm not going to entirely bash this manga because I didn't hate it that intensely.

How can I describe this manga?
It's like if a 'plot-twist' was written down on a paper, crumpled into a ball, and tossed into the trashcan. Several crumpled paper balls later, those 'plot-twists' (which could've been better if used wisely) were melted together, merged into a giant crumpled paper ball, and published.

For the storyline, it'll get a 5. it got somewhere, that's for sure, even if it's the 'somewhere' we didn't want.

For the Art, it'll get a 7. I liked how Kana looked. Only Kana. 🙂
The art is clean and thin, but sometimes the paneling can be confusing.

We can't fully blame this (irritating) manga on the author's writing skills, because the artist had to panel this piece as good as possible. It takes one confusing panel to ruin a moment even more.

Let's just say, adding to the chain of bad reviews, this was a manga that was bound to appear. But well, I'm the type of person who doesn't rate low because although we don't see it, it was put together with hard work to finish it, and collaboration between the author & artist.

Although at first, it seems like this story looks really bad, actually it was the ending that's bad! I do hate the "attempted rape" part (I want to make it clear that Kana wasn't rape, from what I've read and seen. He merely did a hand job on some guy's d***. There's no intercourse or whatever, so don't misunderstand!) But I do find that part where Rin gave the signal to those guys to so-called "rape" him, very idiotic and annoying. Just because he want to get revenge on Shuu, he did that?! Plus, come on! Kana is innocent to begin with! I feel like slapping Rin, not to mention that he disappeared after Kana was admitted into the hospital, and not just a year, but for at least 5-6 years?! Whatever is that for?! To run away or to atone what he has done to Kana? I do understand that Rin and Kana is quite in love in the few chapters but is that really true love? Gosh, it's quite cliche no matter how you read this.

I have to say truly I would have loved this story if Kana died at the beach after he told him/wrote his feelings. That would have made this story so much more likable. usually I would have found problems with the whole gang rape scenario; but this time I didn't because if you look at it from Kana's view point of Rin at the end of the story and his inner thoughts about the things around him it makes since that he is so passive about it and still loves Rin.
I do have to say that most of my points come from how Kana looks and the scene at the beach where kana is talking about the shelf.

irritating lack of realism, particularly with reference to rape

This work is very philosophical in it's style, yet it still contains some standard angsty fare such as the overprotective brother figure, malicious unknown brother-seme, and an unfaithful husband.
However, the style treats everything with an annoying blase attitude, even the attempted/semi-succeeding premeditate gang rape, so these 'shocking' revelations don't seem to have any real impact upon the present reality of the characters.
The aforementioned rape seems to have no effect upon the victim, not even damaging the trust he has in his beloved, who orchestrates the situation in an effort to revenge himself against the victim's generally absent uncle.
The only likable characters in the whole book are Shuu-chan and his mother. Frankly, the uke is annoyingly passive and lacking in self-awareness. Furthermore, he seems to comply with and blindly trust whomever he has elected as his guardian figure, regardless of obvious phrases and clues of current and potential emotional and physical abuse.
If I ever met someone like this in real life I'd have to send them to the local psych for some counselling.
I wouldn't buy it, nor even borrow this from a library after I'd read it once.
