Description

Shigeta, a young woman of 24, spends her days working at Tanaka Books and fretting over her love-life or, more accurately, the lack thereof. The thing is, though, the biggest obstacle between Shigeta and a satisfying relationship seems to be Shigeta herself. Couldn't any of you, who bought the Tokyopop editions, do the world a favor, scan them and put them online on some manga site? Since Tokyopop is no more, it's very difficult to get those volumes, especially when you live outside of US, since the prices are way higher.

This Turned me OFF Josei

I bought volumes 1-7 of this series about seven years ago, really cheap. And thought I might like it, purely based on the art style on the cover. (Hey, I was biased then)

But geez have I learned the error of my ways!
The art inside is pretty terrible, and don't even get me started on this crazy story.

If you like your main character woman to be (And I mean,VERY) self absorbed, and shallow. This is the manga for you.

Meet Shigeta, a 24 years old woman with an unhappy job as a book store clerk. She is so confused in why she can't settle down, and be married already. But this is more like the story of a confused nympho maniac then a young woman on a quest for love.
Every man she meets at the book store, etc. who takes an liking or simply interest in her (even slightly) she beds. I mean.... I lost count at number 38 guys. (But I haven't even read the whole series)

Then meet her guy friend, Takahashi. The tragic character, who she has sympathy sex with, even though he is all the things she is looking for in a man, except he is bad at sex. (Maybe it was not sex, but looks? I may not be getting that right due to purposely induced amnesia)
So what is a shallow girl to do?
Even though Takahashi really does love her?
Simple~Screw anything with a penis!

Really, I know this review sounds nasty and all, but having this as my first Josei, it really painted the whole Josei field in a bunch of grey and black colors. I simply would not even read Josei for years because of how bad this manga was. And even to this day, it can be a struggle not to just look at all Josei the same, so yeah, I'm going to be pretty nasty about this one. Don't waste your time, or burn your eyes. (Bad art!)

Unsatisfying

Slice of life, follow a girl around who is self absorbed and confused as all hell. It was an amusing ride, but I actually was glad to get off once it finished. I just hate selfish girls who are all about their ideal of love, but change their mind about this ideal every 30 seconds, and with every sexual partner.

I also don't think this is josei, I would say seinen. After all, this is a typical stereotype of women that some men do have. It feels like Anno is trying to slap that into the face of women "SEE! This is what they think we do all the time!" or if a man is reading it "You honestly think we are like this? You moron! No-one can live a life this f**ed up!"

I enjoyed it, but like I said, I won't read it again.
