And the main suspect is "harem", along with a heaping dose of arrogance by the mangaka and possibly her editor.



Put simply, good premise, terrible execution. I can't recommend it in good faith, although maybe it might be worth looking back on it once it's finally over.

I've already expressed my displeasure at the direction Hokkaido Gals took at length, and unfortunately this manga seems to be heading down a similar path, with added absurdity. As the reviewer below me mentioned, the arc was ridiculous (and not in a good way), and this next arc that has come up after it involving is just completely unnecessary and painful to read.

I'm going to keep reading for now, hope for improvement, and hope that the Harem tag doesn't rear its ugly head in the future, as it is thankfully absent from this page at the moment. The art is great, it has a very clean lineart style that I love, so if nothing else, maybe that will keep me reading in the long run.

Painfully average. The Also the person below this said it right. The manga like many others had a good premise at the start but derailed severally. I wouldn't have even started this had I known it was going to end up being a harem manga.

Yeah, no. Early chapters seemed fine, but it's now turned into another harem manga with multiple girls falling for the guy with seemingly no personality.

So ya this series is cute. Art is great. This isn't a series where the main character's archtype is cute innocent kind girl or even cute non-innocent kind girl. She's not what I'd personally call a 'good' person, neither is the MC. They're both flawed characters and yet it's cute. The rival character seems like a mostly good person, though also cooler. (EDIT: actually that's harsh, the guy isn't a bad person he just has stuff to learn) That's kinda a manga cliche though, I remember it being discussed on Bakuman. Just haven't been reading manga much in the last 8 years so forgot it can happen in romances.
bah I'm rambling.
EDIT: Ch 43. I'm enjoying this a lot! Time to bump it up 8.5->8.9
Edit 2: The ecchi has increased again :/ It can be kinda ridiculous at times.

Edit 3: as others have said, the beauty pageant was this series at its worse and was mostly distasteful. I'd pretty much recommending skipping the whole arc except the ending, really :/
And having a third love interest is entirely unnecessary, especially as that character is perfect in a separate function I won't clarify for spoiler reasons.
Post-pageant it still has some great parts, mostly the Mona chapters where she secures time alone with him. I keep reading because overall, it's still good and I think it can be better, like it once was (or close to it).
It also must be said that Medaka's character growth is too slow, now. He's had about 3 instances of growths, or rather, spurts of growth every 30 chapter (whereas Mona's was very gradual/constant and the other girls are established enough I'm fine with how they are) and in between them he's static. This has him feeling flatter than the rest of our main cast.

But I'll leave my rating as is until the series is over and then readjust it/

Every chapter is just her trying to win him over. More female characters slowly get introduced. The art is nice. As a girl I don’t really care about the ecchi shots, but they’re pretty infrequent and mild. It’s a wholesome cute story, but it is getting a little boring.
