Still the best

I have just come back to this manga after a long time and I am still in love with it. It starts out as a typical shoujo (until the end of the first chapter) and then just branches out into such a feel-good and truly romantic manga that you feel its really all the other shoujo authors who have been doing it wrong. If you are looking for a manga that resembles life in the way it explores love, then this is it. The love story comes out of itself so gradually and understandably, that before you know it you have read 200 chapters. There are no villains or whiny loved up girls (thank god). Nothing is too dramatic or cheesy, no nonsense drama, and the main leads all have a life that doesnt revolve around love. We have space for personal growth, exploring characters relationships with friends/parents and career growth.
I think most people feel frustrated with the slow development but I personally find it natural and enjoy almost all of the side characters, who are all three dimensional. It is really refreshing to see, and you always root for the main leads who seem so perfect together (again, no drama of love triangles or rejections).
Overall, a perfect love story with a feel-good, truly "shoujo", vibe. The author did a fantastic job.

This manga is like a polished gem that I can't stop staring at. It has wonderful character growth, realistic relationship developments, nice philosophies about life and dreams, and many scenes that gives me adrenaline rush....

My only complaint would be the art and slow release. But that's nothing in the face of this author's ingenious writing and story-crafting skills.

I have been reading this manga for such a long time- and I remember watching the anime a couple of years ago, thinking, "Well, this was... okay?" and not having any particular feelings towards it. Then, after rewatching it, watching the live action, and reading the manga, I fell in love.

Kyoko is a teenage girl who, like most girls, had a slight fangirl problem. However, this was towards her (famous) best friend- who treated her like dirt. After an unintentional wake up call, she decides to whoop his ass by becoming more famous in the entertainment industry than he is (he is a singer). Along the way, she meets the most famous Japenese actor in the modern day, Tsugara Ren, who, to his surprise (she doens't know), already knows Kyoko from long ago, when he was a "fairy prince."

The story of Kyoko slowly regaining her ability to love is touching, and humorous at most times, as well. The added bonus of such a perfect male lead for the atypical shojo Kyoko just adds on to the perfection. I have falled in love with every character, from Sho to Momo to Chiori to the random side characters that appear every so often. Though it may be long, every chapter is something special and holds a place in my heart. I anxiously wait for each new (slowly updated) chapter as soon as I finish reading the new update. If you don't mind the loss of hair (from the tugging) that will accompany the slow romance, this is one of the best. The incredible mix of drama, romance, comedy, and heartwarming moral lessons that comes with this manga leaves you laughing, crying, and smiling all at once.

This series has captured me the same way that Angel Densetsu did, i dont particularly like the art, half the dialog is meaningless, and theres quite a few "wasted" chapters (useless to the plot) BUT it has a heart, (best way i can describe it) and it's increasingly rare to find a manga with heart.

the only real downfall is the releases that are so slow a snail could cross a continent before a new chapter is out and which leaves me thinking this series will end with a "Due to author's death"

still great manga 10/10

I been reading this manga since day one. This is the only manga I always check on and truly look forward too. And this is the only manga I own. I'm so excited to find out more and yet It'll be very sad to have this manga finish. I hate the thought of it. We are already on the chapters were Kyoko is aware of her feelings towards Ren. I hope for Ren and Kyoko to find happiness. Hoping they will end up together happy because they deserve happiness after all what they both went thru

Started off good..

It started off great but now it feels kinda like its dragging without actually continuing the plot. The characters are interesting though and the plot itself is unique and original, just wish the manga didn't drag on as much as it does.
The artwork is quite interesting, though some of the body proportions are a bit off. Nothing too bad, not like some yaoi mangas at least.
If you like long and slow mangas, then you will probably like this, however 200+ chapters for a shoujo that doesn't seem like it's reaching its end is kind of hmmm...
The anime is really good and enjoyable despite the horrible cliff hanger ending (my opinion).
Overall, its a good manga that has dragged on for a good while now smile.

reading others peoples comments i can say i feel the same. I love this manga and ive watched anything related to it, but the thing is it needs to stop. Yea..i loved the fun stunts and the romance.....sadly now its to too drag out. like seriously
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
way too many chapters for them acting as brother and sister. though some spicy moments...
I do like it but for does who cant tough out 200+ chapters, i say don't do it, unless you just have a ton of free time.

OMFG! I am dying every chapter because I know I have to wait a month (or more if holidays) to read the next. If this series is so succesful, how is it that it can't be serialized faster?

But well, this is this only downside of the manga. I am just in too much of a rush to have all my questions answered, my squeals shoulted, my blushes blushed and so on. I am in love with the manga.
I have to admait that I miss the lite Kyoko's hate-spirit. They haven't appeared in a long time, and it really is what drew me completely into this manga!!!
But I am definitely sticking to the end. Though if only I could see it...!

Great read

I've followed this manga for so long I don't even remember how many years has passed. I find this manga to be a great read. Though it is a shoujo manga, and does contain shoujo clichés, Yoshiki Nakamura doesn't specifically deal with the romance of the story, but she includes a variety of themes and concepts into the manga. It leaves a more profound impact on the reader, I believe, because it also deals with a person's aspirations, the finding of their identity, and the making of friends - as opposed to the typical shoujo manga.

Kyoko's character annoys many people, my sister included, and at first I was slightly irked by how naïve and gullible she was, but after thinking a little, I realised that her innocent personality more or less served as a foundation in allowing readers to see how diverse her acting ability is. That's how I see it, at any rate.

Skip Beat is slow - very slow, actually. We're currently 200+ chapters in and Kyoko has only just discovered her feelings for Ren; however, I think the slow pacing is best. Sure, it's emptying my wallet one volume at a time, but it's absolutely fine with me as long as there's character development, good pacing, and a good plot. Thankfully, Skip Beat is one such manga. My opinion on the greatness of the plot may change in the future, however - who knows?

The art is great; Yoshiki Nakamura's style is good in the sense that she can manage to convey a lot of emotions through her character's expressions alone. The art is clean. There is one little bit that used to annoy me though - the disproportion between the male character's head and body. But I got over it.

Overall, I give this a 10/10. It would have been a 9.5 but it turned into a 10 because I still get overly happy when a new chapter is released.

This manga is pretty slow in its releases and if you've been following it for a long time, you can lose some of your momentum. I recently read the latest chapter and I wasn't as excited as I normally was. Because of this, I went back and re-read it from the beginning. HONESTLY! This is one of the few stories that I could read over and over again and never tire of it. I had forgotten a lot and by re-reading it, I found a new love and appreciation for this story when I got to the end again. This story is worth the wait though sometimes you need to go back and be reminded of it. ^-^'
