A "Square" is a region infested with miasma, which causes the appearance of demons. "Pieces" are those who aim to reclaim these Squares, risking their lives every day for the survival of mankind. A young boy named Terus, who was sheltered while in a demon's den, sets out to become a Piece to take revenge on the demon that attacked his parents. Rune, a member of the trick street performing troupe who has been watching over Terus, is worried about his recklessness. One day, Terus leaves the city to defeat the demons. While outside, Terus encounters the demon Eques, the object of his revenge and the one who took his parents from him. Terus vows to save all those he's involved with... all those he's lost.
