Description

Yumeji has a big problem, and no, it's not that he's gay (for now, anyway). Despite his good looks, excellent grades, and talent for sports, he's not getting any, and it has everything to do with the fact that he's impotent thanks to a traumatizing event back in middle school. Nothing seems to help, and since Viagra is apparently not a viable solution in Japan, he's practically lost all hope--until he meets underclassmen Seiji, who's violent, tactless, and says whatever is on his mind. Conveniently enough, he's also in love with Yumeji.

Mu's in love with his best friend Maru, but Maru doesn't take him seriously because, well, Mu's a huge slut who will sleep with anything that moves. So Maru suggests an "endurance contest": he'll sleep with Mu if Mu can hold out for ten days without sex.

The art is gorgeous and whole style is just really great. It's not something every manga has, the clothes, the hair - everything is so well done. The story isn't quite as good, but still it's very fun. The main couple are hilarious and unique. Shinkai and Yumeji's kind of reversal of your stereotypical characterization is nice to see. One complaint though is the main couple is the only one I'm really interested in. The second couple is more of your typical BL story and isn't as fun as the first one. It does improve as the story goes on, and the interaction with all four characters is good. Overall, this is a nice and cute manga. I really like how it's going so far. I hope it turns into something more long running.

hahha, what a lovely story! 😛 I really enjoyed reading it. the art was really cute and the characters were really adorable. wish there were more of it, what a pity.

Shiny Four Friends

An amusing and hot read! Plus, it has a short and verbally blunt/crass seme, which is neat-o. He's partnered with a big, dense lug, which added to the fun. And the other seme-uke pair was fun as well.

Personally, I didn't prefer the lackadaisical attitude two of the men had toward sex. (What kind of friend 'helps' his childhood friend out with his little ED problem in THAT way? And the slutty uke, although very cute and in the end, meaningful with his sexual allowances, was not my cup of tea.

The art was very shiny and pretty. Overall, a quick and fun read; even if a bit flat, the pacing is fast enough to keep the pages turning.

Okay I must say the story was fairly okay. After many years of reading yaoi I've realised its too much to ask of authors to make equaled relationships. Usually its a hacked-up cliche niche that they've set up, and most yaoi readers actually enjoy it.

If you're expecting a story with both the uke and seme having equal standing, then this would be disappointing you greatly. The semes (in both relationships) are cold, demeaning, condescending and hateful.

The first couple is fairly likable. A seme that is cute and dominating but childish and persevering. He apologises and at least understands some of his faults (and attempts to make good). Although the uke is far to quick to forgive and gives in very easily, its still a sweet story because the seme's continued domineering 'love' somehow makes up for it. I guess the seme came out a bit too childish and child-like so you as the reader write him off (and he is cute mind you).

The second couple made me cringe and mainly the reason why I gave this manga such a low rating. Horrible seme. Utterly disgusting. I don't see why he had to act that way at any point in time. He came of as a selfish dick. He is a good friend to the other couple, but absolutely icky with the person he 'supposedly' loves. If the first story had some 'love' this one lacked love at every level. SPOILERS

Chapter 3 the dick seme is asked out -repeatedly by the friend. He goes off to rant how he is digusting ... Err one thing - anyone think its absolutely wrong with the fact that is the flashback Mu got raped? It was RAPE cause the kid was underage - and his supposed friend was like - oh he had sex, he's such a sex fiend! This spells psychological shit! So fine the guy has a taste for sex, so he is slutty - EVERYONE has sex sometime (in yaoi) and why is it so wrong to enjoy sex, men have sex all the time, especially in youth, nothing wrong with it, but he seems to blame him - and even say "I don't want your leftovers" how much more condescending do you need to get Bitch? So he plays around, everyone does. If you want him to be serious about you, do something about your half-backed attitude FIRST. So he asks him out - says he loves him, then he sticks it in so it bleeds (do you know how painful that would have been?) because he wants him to cry like a virgin? BITCH I want to cut you up right here D< ARGH! Disgusting!! He was so disgusting. Has a terrible attitude, a total dick, he doesn't 'love' his friend. In fact I got a feeling he was just venting his frustrations over the other guy. Meanwhile Mu was so endearing. He said he'd make up for it with love. He tried so hard, of course he was promiscious but that was probably due to being RAPED in childhood... Bleeeh this story serious sucked, the Mura guy I hated each time he appeared, nothing good came out of his mouth. He enjoyed teasing the other couple, and abusing his friend. Total asshole - and don't get me started on the extra where he is all like - I needed to test you so I kissed the other girl because you are so promiscious! Okay the end. I give up. So much ent up fumes !!!

Oh my goodness... JACKPOT!!!

I have a list of yaoi mangas I had to read and like the first five of them were so bad... I was about to give up before reading this one. However, SURPRISE. This one actually had a story (plot). It was an amazing experience reading this. Normally, I hate it when the story changes in between characters like the first story was about Yumeji and Seiji. Then, the second story was about Yumeji's friend Maru and Mu.

However, it worked. It really, really worked and it continues to change between characters, unlike where after writing two chapters on the initial characters and concluding with the side characters. I really love the concept of the younger guy (Seiji) being the seme and Yumeji (the older guy) being the uke. It's something I have yet to come across in a lot of the BL mangas I have read so far. Nevertheless, I definitely recommend this manga to BL fans. I really enjoyed it and the artwork was beautiful. I love Seiji and Yumeji's design. Maru was pretty cute too.

Finally, a yaoi manga that isn't just softcore porn or rushed into. It was captivating... enough for me. This was definitely worth my time. I hope you all feel the same way too =D

I found this manga highly entertaining. Putting the awsome art aside, i loved the height difference between the first couple. I am the type to complain about really girly ukes with petite forms and so for the mangaka to switch them aroud put a spark to the relationship. Even though the seme was short, there is a fine line between 'feminine' and 'petite'. Here, the seme was petite, but he sure was erotic and sexy and most of all, he oozed manliness.
The second couple was a bit more complicated and i didn't really know if i liked it or not. I feel that what made me not like it, was the sheer honesty of it.

The charecters were brutally honest. For example, when Maru was saying how he knew Mu was going to find out about him kissing the girl, but he still did it just to evoke a reaction and that indeed happens in real life when couples try to evoke reactions from one another. His worries and the reasons why he was testing Mu also became clear and i really understood his motive behind it and therefore didn't hate him for it. It was also ustified why Mu took so long to confess. However, i must say the thing i hated the most was Mu's previous promiscuousness as i felt he slept around waaay too much.
But as Maru said, there's no point thinking about his previous lovers :)

Decent, but...

I enjoyed reading this one. The characters are likable, the writing isn't too painful and the main couple's dynamic is interesting.

I particularly liked the "shorter seme" character, and how he was so bossy around the taller uke. He reminded me a bit of Kyuugou's protagonist in 'Okujou no Bai-bai'. It's becoming a common cliche now, but it's still more interesting than the usual "tall seme/tiny uke" formula.

But here's my problem with this work: When pressed for a need for drama and plot, the mangaka seems to default here to cliche themes of jealousy, possessiveness, and sex. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but the way it's handled is very cliche and somewhat unsettling at times. Ir's true that the one-shot Chapter 3 is frustrating; but the idea of accidental (or impassioned) moments of rape and other sexual aggressiveness occur sporadically through this entire manga. This manga isn't as heavy on the rape as traditional smut titles are, but that makes it feel even more out of place in this otherwise cute, pleasant and funny story.
Had the mangaka scrapped some more traditional (and distracting) cliches, I feel this would've been a much stronger work. As it stands, it's a decent read, but not distinctly memorable.
