A watershed work of 80's gekiga shimmering with vulnerability, Talk to My Back explores Japan's fraying suburban middle-class dreams through a woman's relationship with her two maturing daughters and her mostly absent yet demanding husband. A historic accomplishment for female comics artists in Japan, the series poignantly depicts the relationship between family, domestic inequality, and personal freedom.
