Each characters got a deep developpement ! Really like the "real" approach of lesbianism.

I am absolutely in love with Ajiichi-sensei's other work Dear My Teacher

I've loved Dear My Teacher since it was first released like 10 years ago and eagerly awaited each irregular release. It felt so sad to know that such a talented mangaka was unserialised and had to publish as doujinshi.
I come back to the manga scene after many years to find that she's been serialised!! And this is the series, called Failed Princesses. And it's even licensed in English! (I feel so bad that i'm reading the scanlations, I want to support this author directly, I'll find a way one day)

Now, unfortunately this is not as good as Dear My Teacher, which I rate a 10/10 or at least a 9.
But it is decent! The resolution feels a tad bit rushed, I wish it went for a couple more chapters so Kurokawa's issues could've had more time, but overall it's a solid series where I can't find much to criticise.
The characters aren't the best people, but they weren't intended to be. (I mean Iro and Izumi are, but not the MCs). And that does leave room for character growth, where by the end of the series they are both better people than they were at the start, thanks to the influence of each other, even if they're not 'great' people.

Ajiichi-sensei made a good work, with great depth to its story, atmosphere and even characters, though less so.
And my GOD, her art is STILL INSANELY GOOD!!. Bumps it from a 8->8.4
The colour pages are like a gift to the reader, I swear, you can really feel it.

edit: Remember to read the doujinshi SECOND epilogue that takes place shortly after the first epilogue (the first being the one that is included in the published book). You might find it under the name "Dekisokonai no Himegimi-tachi - Dekihime no Usui Hon (Doujinshi)" or "Failed Princesses - Useful Princesses Thin Book (Doujinshi)" or "Useful Princesses Extra Edition 3"

Could've ended more convincingly, but still good

I feel the idea for the ending was better than the execution, in that the problems were more told than shown, so even with hints the last few chapters are quite jarring.

Why all the bad ratings?

Probably one of the more enjoyable reads I've looked at in recent years. The character development is amazing, with intricate emotions from each character woven very masterfully. Each character stands out for different reasons, the psychology of each one is so life like and real. I found myself reading 19 chapters of this with my heart leaping for joy at times, and then other times I could feel the utter raw emotions of that characters pain or confusion and making me flustered or sad. It's rare for me to feel so invested in a series these days, because to tell you the truth I have honestly read thousands of manga stories and seeing the same old stuff is like okay but it lacks biodiversity and character development. I do think this is becoming one of my favorite series but I do want to note that the first chapter is greatly misleading until the very end. It's pretty generic. I mean to be honest, at first I thought that this story was going to be a run of the mill romance yuri story. Cute and thats about it, but I'm very happy I stuck around and I hope more yuri mangaka will follow in this one's footsteps.

The suspense, the emotion, the slow romantic buildup, the anger, the raw emotions seeping everywhere in a way one would think would become a chaotic mess became so neatly tied in a bow. This mangaka is one of the masters to so skillfully be able to do this. To tell the truth I've honestly rarely seen other series be able to pull it off.

I haven't even been able to mention the art yet, but the art is beautiful, and almost as intricate as the psychological plot. One moment it seems like its generic, other moments its dark, comedic, and still other moments its beautiful or sorrowful. I also love how their is yandere undertones as well.
I am giving this a 10/10
