Surprisingly meaningful compared to its first impressions. It carries deep message of classism and division, of aged mindsets and how despite being so old are similar to the thinking patterns of people now.
what starts as a slice of life delves deeper into the relationship with food, and emotions, and choices. How even the simplest meal can resolve heartache, and can change the future. It shows that food is more than a necessity, it's contirbutes to every aspect of out mind
From start to end I absolutely adored the main character and was rooting for her the whole way, the way she stands up even knowing how deep the consequences go, how she speaks her truth and rejects unnecessary burdens being shoved on her without her will. She represents all the readers, all the things we would have noticed or liked to say to historical figures, she sees all the modern things and ideas that we now take for granted being absent and how truly meaningful they are
More than her all the characters are well developed, the king despite being Brutish and cruel, also has good thoughts sometimes that go against the patriarchal and classist ways of thinking, all while contributing to these things himself. No character is just a villain or just good, everyone is just human
while the start is a bit slow and cringe at times it develops into a wonderful must read story. Don't just dismiss it because of the art and basic seeming plot, it's amazing !
