I know you did all that evil, but it was for LoVe so everything is ok!

Damn, girls are mean. The beginning starts out with horrible bullying and some horrible stuff the antagonists are doing. But all is forgiven because the girls were just doing it because of love. So that makes everything all right. The teacher had no love, so he remains bad.

But actually the start is pretty great. The main character straight up carries this series with how awesome she is. A completely refreshing character with how blunt and to the point she is. The main romantic interests were also pretty great and a nice love triangle was forming.

But then towards the middle the series really starts to drag. In the Anna arc it introduced this completely dumb plot device to force the romantic interests apart. And introduced another completely pointless love interest with absolutely no chance to drag the story even further. Everything just became way to melodramatic and trite and the main character started losing what made her great to begin with. I ended up dropping it around here.

But reading the other comments it seems the author takes the whole forgiveness angle to the extreme.

It seems the main character even forgives her pedo father who raped her mother when she was 14. An act so dramatic that it forced her mother to commit suicide. But no worries mate, it was done because of love! So it's all good.

The main attraction of this series is the girl, Maria. She is an enigmatic character with a lot of mystery surrounding her.

Honestly, though, I enjoyed how Maria slowly becomes more and more normal and integrates with society. It's realistic that she was no longer a "strange, exotic, mysterious" character since we came to understand her backstory, but I wish she developed beyond the reveal. I never got super attached to the character, as the story was so plot-centric and melodramatic. If only more of Maria's developments beyond her trauma were shown.

Liked the start, but found themes upsetting and disturbing.

I stopped reading manga for a while, I got a full time job, and just didn't have the time, but I started reading manga again (btw, I didn't loose my job), and I remembered that I had liked this one, so it was one of the first I came back to. I stopped reading it as some of the later chapters were translated, and took it off my reading shelf because I felt that it was romanticising rape.

I read up to chapter 81 and then read chapter 91 summary as I felt this manga was going downhill.

My rating is a 5. First quarter was interesting but the rest was very melodramatic. There is a lot of progressing and then regressing again and again in characters' developments.

Like, ugh, an example is Shin. Okay, I get he have insecurities but it's being replayed after he thought he overcame it. I think it was poorly executed. The story line became tiresome.

I read another user's review about how it was decent until Anna's plot. Very true. After this, everything is shallow. I do, however, like Shintaro as his character is consistent.

What I hate: chapter 91 have Yuusuke's monologue as the conclusion. At this point, I just pity him. He has always showed strength toward Maria, being there every time she needed help, and he is mentally strong to put back his shortcomings in order to support her, unlike Shin (multiple times)... yet the last chapter portrayed him in such a pitiful way. He's rejected but still idolizes her traits. =_=

Decent series, interesting character study

This series started off okay for me. I didn't dislike it, but I didn't feel that there was anything particularly awesome about it either. What I did end up loving about the first volume was Maria. It's interesting to see such a blunt, honest character that's still vulnerable a naïve in a lot of ways. Watching her form her circle with the other characters became more interesting with each volume. Though the plot wasn't particularly new in terms of shojo, I found the themes to be rather new and that made the story coast from okay to something more.

This series was pretty funny in a lot of ways, but things got a little too melodramatic for me towards the end. I also felt that Maria dealt with some rather serious drama and it didn't quite play out realistically enough for me. I was also annoyed by the fact that the mangaka felt every guy needed to fall for Maria.

I did enjoy the romance here, but I almost gave the series a lower rating because I hoped for a better ending. It wasn't bad. It was actually realistic given their ages, but with all the drama they endured, I want them to be together in a more concrete manner after all of the drama. All in all, this series is a rather nice character study. Despite the issues I had with it, it was well written and I loved the art.

Great Start

To start off with this series is really good. The characters all have this air of suspense that makes them interesting and unique, especially Maria.
However as the manga progresses things become more and more dramatic and as things are revealed I feel as if it starts to go a little cliche.
The story behind Maria's birth is great and I loved the way that it linked up to her hatred of physical contact but I feel as though that hatred of physical contact shouldn't have disappeared as fast.
I also feel as though the way in which Maria simply forgave the man who raped her mother -regardless of love or other feelings- was too unrealistic.
I enjoy the mangas that i read to be a little more realistic then what i've been reading now. When reading through the parts involving things like the suicide and self hatred i find that to be even more unrealistic. It would have had more impact had the artist made it more realistic because after an experience like that, people shouting at you wouldn't help and the way it was handled was honestly not up to par.
Also, in the beginning i felt that Meguro was the type of guy who was laid back but as the story progressed he became more cliche and he lost the restraint that he should have had towards Maria and the way Maria began to act towards him was way too fast for my liking.
Overall this starts off as a great read but as you continue things become less interesting and unrealistic making it slightly irritating to read. It also loses a lot of the suspense that the characters were great for and the personalities of them, for kanda yuusuke and Erosu this is especially true. Finally I feel as though Maria's unique personality diminishes a little too much during the character development and she starts to look like a normal everyday girl.
This was a great manga and although it has its down i believe it's still worth the read for those who are looking for some romance and drama.

I like the girl herself. She's spunky and sweet at the same time she has a dark complex to her. Which is pretty cool. I also like how bold she is with her choices in life. It's the people around her that are pretty annoying. It makes school girls look like scary criminals. And the guys are just all over the place. They want her but don't want her. They make a move but don't make a move. They have her but they can't deal with themselves. So annoying. And the repetitative ave Maria stuff is getting old too. Maguro injures his hand.. It seems like he won't be able to play agin.. He has to move for rehab.. So he bring kawaii on a date and breaks up with her. They end up at his house and she wants to give herself to him to make him see her love. But he won't let her.. She then requests for him to play the piano for her.. It ends up sounding tragic and she sings.. He wants to go to her again but she does what is needed and pushes him away.. He understands this and they hug the final goodbye?! They talk on the phone after he got lectured to show some proper feeling to her. He doesn't end up saying what he was trying to cause she was making a different convo happen. The blonde that likes her helps her to try and meet him at the airport so she can tell him her feelings. They didn't spot him but he left a msg singing his love to her. She is singing along to the voice mail and was recorded. The blonde put it on YouTube. Still that same Maria song pretty much.one of the friends recorded and posted to the web. She is noticed and now they want to make a group video..

Unrealistic

I was originally really intrigued by this story, the characters were appealing and I was interested to see how the romance progressed. But it just seemed to me that the Mangaka was trying to make things too dramatic and thus ended up failing on the realism.
The kinds of emotions the characters were feeling and the problems they were experiencing were often utterly unbelievable, either that or they made no sense whatsoever. There was way too much angst, the bullying was completely unrealistic, the teacher's behaviour was ridiculous.
Everything just started to feel forced, forced so each chapter would have lots of action to keep the reader's attention.
