Read only if you're interested in romance. That's all I got out of the first 2 volumes. I read a bit, then I skimmed the rest, and it all seemed the same.
In it's favor, Rei's not an apathetic sex doll like in the anime, but other than there wasn't anything to recommend it.

Simply enjoyable!

It was a nice twist on the world of Evangelion. It was well-worth the buy.
The only thing one could complain about would be the art, but as one reads the volumes, it becomes a trivial matter.

Asuka ftw!!! also it isn't really shoujo, seems to me to be for either gender. the style of the artwork strikes me as mildly shoujo-ish but the storyline, as i commented, is really for the fanbase, not gender specific.

it is what it is: a long doujin
As a big Evangelion fan, I was excited to hear about a new manga series. For those unfamilar - this manga is based on the alternate world seen in episode 26 of the Eva TV series - Shinji is a typical boy going to school, rather than a elite Eva pilot.
My excitement faded when I actually READ this sub-par, alternate-universe retelling of Eva. For a while I think it carried the nickname "Love Eva" - which is appropriate, except that Love Hina was actually mildly entertaining. The dialog is awkward, and the story is trite and stereotypical (can Shinji choose between life-long childhood friend Asuka or the mysterious new girl Rei? Hijinks ensue!). The result is manga high school drama at it's crappiest and most predicatable.
I gave it a 3 - I'd give it a 1 but I actually kinda liked the shoujo-ish art style. However, I think I'm in the minority here too - I've heard from many who hate the art and say it looks ametuerish in a dojinshi kinda way.
Check it out if you're still curious - it's now available in the US under the title "Angelic Days" from ADV. Don't say I didn't warn you.
