Eden - It's an Endless World!

Description

In the panic surrounding a worldwide pandemic which kills 15 percent of the population and cripples many more, a secret organization, the Propater, topples the UN and seizes control of much of the world. A boy and a girl, raised in an abandoned virology research center, immune to the virus, are attacked by the Propater and escape.

Based strongly on Gnostic mythology, all major characters are named after gnostic deities, and have analogous roles.

The author must be a real nut! This is beyond masterpiece. I can hardly imagine how he could link scientific issues and mafia stuffs and politics and actions and all other things. The philosophical arguments discussed in the manga are also very stimulating. A must-read for all manga fans!

Exceptional Story

When I started this manga I was expecting something vaguely similar to Road Warrior: end of the world, fighting to survive, blah blah blah. Something just to kill time. However, this story goes above and beyond, diving deep into politics, crime, religion and even quantum physics. I highly recommend this series. It addresses, from many different perspectives, the complexity of human nature. The story is vaguely similar to Eureka seveN, with the major difference being that there are no "heroes." Everyone is just trying to survive by their own ideals. For as long as they can. The gnostic tie-ins are quite brilliant as well.

The only drawback I would say is keeping track of the characters. There are many different factions each with their own connections. You can tell at some point that the artist had trouble creating a unique appearance for various side characters. The story could use a chapter by chapter identification guide on each of the newly introduced characters just so you don't mix them up. Hell, during some flashbacks you may have to wait to determine the sex of the character in focus.

All in all if you have the patience this story will thoroughly wow you.

I think Endo has really out done himself with Eden as a manga-ka. Eden is a futuristic, post-apocalyptic world manga that cover different view points from a over the world in an gradual time span. It is very rough, graphic, and shows dark side of humankind with acuracy. In other words some people would have to find the stomach to read.

Eden has a huge character base where there is not only one main character but many, using character perspective of what is happening as its base. You either love or hate many chracters who are great but either way alot of them die so it doesn't really matter. The ending was kinda anti-climatic but it was not half-assed, stupid or did not make any sense.

Eden is one of those mangas you read and can re-read if you don't understand, there's alot of that, but it's awesome. START READING.

Just a multigenerational, worldwide, political, social, religious, scientific, complicated, action, sci-fi sometimes romantic tale of multiple in-depth and all the more interesting and various characters... And it's freaking good.

I think how much one is inclined to enjoy Eden is most likely directly correlated to how you read it. As a standard post-apocalyptic sci-fi story, it flickers from above average to slightly below in terms of quality, although it is quite expansive and well-drawn. From a purely character-based perspective, it's moderately more impressive, but the utter failure of development for certain characters doesn't favor it. In the end, I think that Eden is best enjoyed as a philosophical piece that utilizes biblical symbolism to strongly prove a point, and in that regard, it allows the whole of Endo's narrative talent to comes into play. It may not be as wonderful as Tanpenshu, but it really is a stunning work in terms of thought provoking philosophy on the single level, and I hope that, like with films like Donnie Darko, the readers can see beyond the storytelling flaws to derive the meaning underneath, otherwise there's not much of a point to reading it, now, is there?

Reminds me of Eternal Sabbath. It's wonderfully dark and thought-provoking and how can you resist all that awesome kick-ass battle scenes and the sci-fi-ness?? Um, I do NOT find it lame (although yes, there are some concepts of science and all that which I don't understand, but still, it's not BORING) and I think it is VERY realistic. Especially the battle scenes. And the characters... my god, they're in-depth.

The only things I have against it are the unnecessary sex scenes that pop up every once in the a while (but whatever, this is a seinen manga and the intended audience are like middle-aged guys) and that sometimes, the manga gets confusing. There's lots of characters and new ones are always appearing out of thin air, while the old ones hang in the background until they reappear to surprise you at random intervals. It's kinda hard to keep track of who is exactly who. And the plot gets... weird sometimes. Like there are moments when I'm like, "What was the whole point of focusing on what's-her-face for 5 chapters and then killing her off?" etc, etc.

The art... I love it, surprisingly since I'm always picky about it. It's not flat-out gorgeous or perfect, but I like how realistic it is (more or less) and it's definitely not bad enough to disrupt the whole thing.

Did I stress how realistic it seems? It's not just the plot, but even the dialogues and most importantly, the relationships between the characters and the portrayals of... emotions. Very touching at times. I love how even the minor characters have their own limelight.

It's moderately-paced, although a bit slow in the beginning. But believe me, it's worth reading! I have not been able to put it down since I picked it up yesterday. And the philosophy bits in it and the stuff about religion... just really, really intriguing.

great great great manga.
the story goes different directions as you go, so it keeps you guessing
great cast of characters with brilliant development.
well executed artwork and action scenes.
a good mix of genres with realistic romance and sex. someone commented on "unneccasary random sex scenes" but these only appear when relevant to the plot. sex is a very poignant part of many people's lives and especially in the development of their personality, and in this manga, people's lives are disected to that level of detail. the girl who was":

killed off", was not pointless: she was a major part of elia's life, which led to his drug problem and further problems...

re-readability is high too

She/he is right on the mark with what she/he wrote. I agree with everything she/he said. Too many flash backs, story is too confusing because of the way it was told/layed out. The art is very nice!

the story pretty good but the character suck the main character still try to act all wimpy even through he not that weak the worse thing about this story it comedy suck the story suppose to be serious but it try put few lame laughing moment
