Starting with the story, I feel that a tournament made by a Japanese, set in Japan during the Edo period, is a good choice, instead of setting it in an unknown location, as is the case with RoR or Majo Taisen. At that time, there were many historical figures being forged (inside and outside of Japan), whether due to internal wars, politics, or urban legends, which have always fueled the Japanese folklore.
I really liked the roster; the choice of historical Japanese characters was very good. Most of the characters are very well written, I don't feel they are bland or boring. In that aspect, the writer has taken great care not to make the same mistake as the writer of RoR.
Another thing that makes Tenkaichi better than RoR is the art. The drawings are incredibly detailed, the characters are well-developed, and the focus on each fight is simply spectacular. It's simply beautiful. The androgynous design of some characters is secondary, that "Horny Sengoku-era" comment only demonstrates their ignorance in judging a manga based solely on not having read beyond the first volume.
The intensity of the fights is still there after 57 chapters in a biweekly basis, they aren't annoying fights or I don't feel that there has been a filler fight, all of them have managed to entertain me, even the weakest ones.
Of all the Kengan Ashura/Omega clones (RnR, Rosen Garten Saga, Isshou Senkin, Majo Taisen), this is one of the best.
