From Manga Balls Deep!
*Honestly, this is one of the worst endings to a series I’ve seen in a long time. The writer, Nikumaru, completely gaslit us throughout the entire story. He makes it clear that Minase is sick, yet never reveals what her illness actually is. She even goes through surgery, but we still have no idea what she’s suffering from. Then, just when things finally progress and she and Riku become intimate, instead of showing us what happens next, we get a lazy 2-year timeskip that tells us absolutely nothing.
Riku’s living a good life now, he’s in college, and that’s fine, but it still leaves huge holes in the story. What happened to Minase? How did she just disappear without a trace? He was literally just at her apartment before she vanished. Why didn’t he go back? None of it makes sense.
To me, it’s a despicable ending. And if the writer has to release an epilogue just to fill in the missing pieces, then what was the point of ending the series like this in the first place? Mangaka really need to stop using “reader interpretation” as an excuse for incomplete storytelling. All it does is make people lose faith in the work they created.
You can agree or disagree, but in my opinion, this ending was not only disappointing, it was hollow. The series barely had any room to grow, and it feels like Nikumaru just stalled until he ran out of ideas. We got more character development out of Umimi and Yoko than we ever did from Minase. If this was meant to be some incentive to buy the next volume, I’m sorry, but that's just a waste of money*
