A good, slightly slower paced read

This is a bit difficult to describe, but it's definitely a good read. The MC is a old knight, he's stronger than most but not the strongest, he's on a journey to see the world, and he enjoys food a lot. There's some pretty good action scenes, good story, and the characters feel distinct.

I think this does a good job of having a character like food, but not making it a huge deal (I find that it can get annoying in other works when someone's spending pages and pages to rant about curry or something). It's used pretty well as a way to spruce-up lulls in the action.

The pace is on the slow side, but it doesn't drag on and on or enter a holding pattern (from what I've seen as of Ch 16).

I think the art is quite good too.

I recommend giving it a read.

Very good traditional fantasy

This feels like traditional western fantasy, but in a somewhat unique world.

Not entirely new, but new enough to be exciting. The characters and the stories are complex, art is great. There is a bit too much focus on cooking for my taste (pun intended), I don't know why fantasy series with detailed accounts of a fantasy world cooking is such a large sub-genre in Japan, but it is what it is. It does make sense in world as the MC really likes traveling and eating good food.

I'm pretty sure that like any epic fantasy, there is going to be an overarching good vs evil plot at some point with the MC playing an important part, but the slice of life aspect of the series means things are advancing very slowly. At this pace, I expect the series to take 10 more years or so.

This too is not uncommon if you think of traditional fantasy book series like Dragonlance where you get many books that introduce you to the party before they have to battle for the faith of the world. This is similar. You get to learn about all the party members and other important aspects of the world before the main plot kicks into gear, in 2-3 years roughly( just a guess ).

An enjoyable ride.

This series started off with a more traditional fantasy plot but surprisingly wraps it up to a degree in the first volume or so. Everything after that is a mature slice of life journey of Sir Bard journeying the world seeking new food to eat and somehow getting involved in saving innocents from bandits, corrupt nobles and demon beast alike. There is a reason he is called the People's Knight.

Overall a fun story to read and I look forward to more.

Lazy writen cliché after cliché

Half assed written, cliché ridden, history of a 58 year old guy without any history for himself, other than longing the company of a brat he guarded 29 years ago.
I personally don't know or care if the story gets better past chapter 2, I dropped it half way the second one.
