Description

"There are too many unnecessary people" - A story of destruction dedicated to a certain person who thought such.

25 years old, no money, no job, no girlfriend. Kurokawa, a man absorbed with an anime called "Meromero Melodies" and on the fast track to nowhere in life, grabs hold of a certain ability, "BANG".

終末の天気 Overview

Characters and Presentation
Morally Bankrupt, with few exceptions.

With little to no narration and preachy characters. The author leaves it up to the reader to make up their own mind about how they feel about the characters. Why can't more things be written like this...

Plot and Pacing
The story unfolds in a very unpredictable way with few conveniences. With all, it's twists and turns the story remains logical, consistent and adequate foreshadowing for its major twist.

Being that his power doesn't kill but "sorts" necessary people.

The pacing is fast and exciting and rarely feels like an event or character interaction is glossed over. The pacing slows downs in the latter third however as less new information and characters are being introduced. The slower pace matches the tone and situations the characters are in during that part of the story.

Art
Unique and rough around the edges. Perfectly matches the characters being depicted and the tone of the story. Admittedly, the artist's technical skill isn't very high, but this isn't detrimental.

A story about a scumbag being given a special power. It doesn't drag on, and there are quite a few twists that I don't want to spoil. In these kinds of stories where the main character( and most of the surrounding cast for that matter) are unlikable scumbags the ending can really make or break the story. This one has a really fitting ending so I recommend it.

Full of surprises...

You've got your basic loser setting to start with : the virgin hikikomori protagonist, the dumpster flat, the beautiful girl next door, the socializing problems, etc... Reminded me of NHK ni Youkoso! and so many others. Then, he's somehow granted a special power. With this premise, you'd expect the story to drag him more or less smoothly out of his misery, right ?

Wrong. From there on it's an orgy of unexpected plot twists and twisted character behaviours. Mind you, it is not a mess of disconnected shocking scenes. Both the plot and the charcters seem to be going somewhere, it just is not "over the rainbow".

I can really see where the negative ratings are coming from ; the manga itself has an amoral, cynical feel to it, and the scanlation is rather good but extremely "colorful" credits-wise.

A very refreshing read as far as i've read (~chap.20).
