To summarize it, I'd have to say this is something of a GTO approach to a minor tragedy, involving a middle-aged man as the main protagonist. And asside from the training and fighting, it's really about philosophy, and personal mental growth.
The only problem I'd have to say with it is that the ending is about 2 pages too short.

Started reading this manga at random out of curiosity due to the title (thinking it was something like Yotsubato!, Otaku no Musume-san or even Usagi Drop). But, around the first chapters, aghast, I was teleported into a entry scene of some mind-break or gore manga. At which point I wanted to leave it at that and merrily return to my trials of quenching this never ending thirst for great mangas. However, for some odd reasons in felt like continuing reading it while hoping that this was some elaborate plan by the author to make it worthwhile. Indeed, it slowly turned out to be unexpectedly well laid out and developed considering how character growth was central to this story with the 'rebirth' of a middle-aged old man from "simply going about life" to "living life fully".
Somewhat akin to Ikigami, NHK ni Youkoso!, Great Teacher Onizuka, Kamen Teacher or Hareluya.

as the above poster said, it ended a bit short, i would have loved to see the reunion between father and daughter. rather than a minor tragedy i'd say it was about powerlessness and abuse of authority.

This short story is great.
I am likely letting my emotions run high right now after finishing the last chapter. And it was A chapter, A story indeed.
It's a lot of concurrent occurrences happening at once, in harmony, in that disturbed of a normal life to be normal in a new, reborn form.
The underlying themes of personal change and growth are there. The bonds of family, of friendship are there. And what I dig the most were the belief, the faith in oneself that transcend to others. It's there. It is always there. And if you don't take that first step, you will never know what you can achieve or how people change, their perceptions change reflecting the communal and societal views: Sure, you will fumble but there will be cheers for the true underdog. It was all because of that first step.
Highly recommended. Great stuff. I will read this again, definitely, in the future.

It's another "The worm turns" story like "I Am a Hero" but many times shorter and with a lot of wisdom in it. Once you start reading it I believe you won't be able to put it down until the end.
