pros:
- good art (I'm pretty sure a lot of people will fangirl over the male lead's looks and abs lol)
- interesting magic system
cons:
This story used one of the silliest plot devices that makes me roll my eyes (and we have to read this in the first chapter as an introduction):
Who actually promises they will “do anything” to make up for a guy kissing her back and sleeping with her?? (this is not a spoiler as it was the intro to the story LOL). And of course the guy takes advantage of this and asks for something she is not fine with. It just makes the story feel forced, with the writer lacking talent in subtlety to get the desired consequences to advance the plot.
The execution of that whole scene made it even more annoying. It went something like this:
“I will do anything for you to make it up to you” she said. And he was like “Really? Anything??” just to make sure she meant it. And she was like “oh yeah!!” - without thinking at all of the consequences like what if he asks for something crazy such as murder, torture, thievery, etc.
To make it worse, in this magical world, mages lose their magic if they don't keep their promises.
If promises are such a big deal how can she just make one so carelessly? How is she considered a genius? How did she survive as a witch for 28 years as a division leader without losing her magic before this point??
I also don’t like how people are just swept up by the handsome face and fan service and become blind to (or just willfully ignore) the problematic underlying issues. Manipulation from the guy (he fake cries to guilt trip the girl into complying with his wishes, I kid you not), and lack of consent (the girl abused her rank and power when she came onto him, and he let her, but it's still problematic) result in toxic relationships in real life.
The ?somewhat good? thing is that the guy seems to be really into the girl even though they're strangers (you can guess the demographics of this story without looking at the tags just from this LOL).
Maybe the guy gets better. Maybe he has this deep backstory for liking the girl so much. And maybe she knew him as her childhood best friend or whatever but had some form of manga-amnesia so forgot about him. And then she will fall for all his other good points like attentiveness, being lovey-dovey, a sweet-talker, has the looks and the abs but not the character. Who knows. I'm out.
TL;DR - if you're okay with not reading things too seriously and enjoy pretty art, then this is for you.
Foolish female lead, manipulative male lead.
The girl's character profile is the (supposedly) strong and smart type, and the guy is the handsome but cunning type.
This story is actually pretty messed up in so many different levels but the art is good. Drawing the guy crying with sparkles as special effects was overkill.
1 point for the art
1 point for the magic system
1 point for the old archwizard who looks the same decades later: old
rating thus far: 3/10
