Starting with the positives (because there aren’t many): the art style is decent. If One Punch Man is a 10/10, this manga sits at a solid 6.8/10. Compared to other works of its type, it’s slightly less infuriating but that’s faint praise.
Now, the negatives: the protagonist is a textbook example of the Japanese “beta male” trope, which makes him rage-inducing from the first page. The story begins with him managing an absurdly large family of 7–8 sisters, without any brother in sight. His role as their manager involves preventing them from overeating, making poor career choices, and generally keeping their lives on track a job that would normally require a whole team. Yet somehow, his family fails to recognize his value, and on his 18th birthday, he’s cast out as a “nuisance.”
Here’s where things get really absurd: over the years, the protagonist apparently neglects his schoolwork entirely to serve his siblings, dedicating all his time to managing their careers. And yet, in the middle of this utterly packed, stressful life, he somehow becomes a martial arts expert enough to take down bullies twice his size without breaking a sweat. Let that sink in: a teenager who’s too busy to focus on his own life somehow gains peak-level fighting skills through what, exactly? This is a perfect example of the manga’s pure wish-fulfillment.
After being kicked out, everything shifts to fantasy mode. The protagonist, who looks like a girl, is suddenly admired by everyone including other idols and has zero resentment for years of mistreatment. The story quickly becomes less about character development and more about the author’s personal fantasies.
In short, this manga has slightly better execution than other low-tier Japanese releases I’ve encountered, but it still falls into all the traps of unrealistic characters, overused tropes, and absurd wish-fulfillment. If you’re looking for a story with substance or relatable characters, this isn’t it. If you want escapist fantasy with a marginally competent art style and the occasional “how is this even possible?” moment, it’s worth a glance.
5/10 (being very generous here mainly because the artstyle is decent)
