Description

Roland is an assassin who, one day, breaks from his team and single-handedly “kills” the demon king.
After returning to the kingdom, the king graciously promises Roland whatever he wants for his heroics. Conflicted in his desires - he hasn’t thought of anything outside of killing for years - he remembers that one of his teammates told him what she plans to do after evil is defeated: "Live an ordinary life."
And so Roland, with his ability to become unnoticeable and the disguised demon king/queen Laila at his side, decides to live a slow life.

Interesting but Flawed

There are some awesome concepts that are executed very well:

The relationship and romance development of the main character and the main female love interest is fantastic.
Some genuinely wholesome moments.
The idea that the main character becomes a guild receptionist and starts to take an interest in the safety of those he gives jobs to, even giving them training and becoming the examiner for new adventurers.
Just about any 1 on 1 moments with any of the characters (even if some of them are absurd).

But there are some hiccups, too.

The harem part doesn't really fit into the story, and as a result is barely in it to the point I don't know why it was ever included.
There's a moment where the main character

has sex with a random adventurer to... shut her up or teach her a lesson? and it's so out of character the only reason I can think for it to exist was to set up and make fun of a recurring coworker who is interested in one of the girls who likes the MC and is apparently in his harem (though not for quite a long time).

The plot... I don't know what it is, and some of it seems so contrived I don't know why a better one wasn't used. It's technically still not too late to change it to something better.
The overuse of the main character doing things because that's what a "normal" person would do. Yes, the one girl points out she feels she could get him to do anything if she called it normal, and it might be true, but it shouldn't be. It's a cheap gimmick at this point.

The art is great, but a lot of the female faces look alike, which is odd because this is one of my favorite artists who, in another (better) manga has no issue with having different looking faces. Still, I like the art quite a bit.

Overall, as a package, it's above average, but it's nothing to write home about.

I should point out a lot of people enjoy the absurd parts of this story ironically: said absurdities, like

stealing your potential employer's panties while she's wearing them without her noticing during the job interview seem to bring entertainment to many people.

The best part of the whole manga is probably the relationship between the MC and the main romantic love interest. Their relationship develops in a sweet and enjoyable manner from both sides. It is technically a harem manga but the relationship with all the other girls gets almost 0 development after they get introduced so if you're someone who generally isn't a fan of harems you can probably still enjoy a large part of this.

The worst part of the manga is most of the conflict and most minor villains. The conflict itself rarely serves any purpose other than reminding us how powerful/influential the MC is and is very rarely resolved in a funny or smart or entertaining way. The villains are evil baddies with exaggerated evil faces and you will forget they even existed the chapter after they are both introduced and instantly dealt with.

The art tends to be decent with the exception of old men and beastmen who look really uncanny and weird.

The story is also filled with countless plot holes. Expect enjoyment to come from the character moments, not the overall story.

I cannot imagine recommending this manga to anyone but if a few volumes fall into your lap for whatever reason it's not the worst thing you could read either.
