I tried to read it, I honestly did, and when I try to read something I try to finish it. This I could not finish. So a few years after it became a big hit, I tried again. Still couldn't do it. It's just not my cup of tea. It's good, but not for me.

started off really really good at da beginning. but afta that it became so stupid. pointless fights that the reader really has no interest in da outcome. I mean there r so many characters, and as many ppl have already said, u dont really get attached to them. Therez hardly any progress chapter afta chapter, afta 20 or so chapters a major breakthrough happens. I only keep on reading bleach, cos the beginning was soo good, dat i want to see how it ends.

Long manga

I watched the anime first. I like the anime a lot, except for the huge amount of fillers. So after i finished the latest episode, i started reading the manga where the anime basically left off.
I must say that, as far as the plot goes, bleach has a good plot line. It has long arcs, of course, as all long-battled-mangas do. the fighting scenes are top knotch. the character development is very good as well. you can actually see clearly how strong Ichigo has become over the course of the manga/anime series. also, he's not the "strongest" of course. if he is, that would be the end of the manga. he still has room to wiggle around. Illustration...I would say, it's confusing at time. sometimes i can't tell what is what. but the character designs are very creative and beautiful.

the only thing i've got to complain about this is that there's next to none romance. i suppose, if there is, it wouldn't have been such a strong manga.
compared to the anime, the plot is the same, the art is better (of course since it's more detailed) and manga is more explicit. for those who have see the anime then read the manga can tell the difference in the amount of blood. for example, if someone in the anime gets scratches, in the manga, that person's side is completely blown off.

so, yeah. there's a lot of blood and fighting. if you are not into those, don't read this manga. people in this manga find every opportunity to fight each other.
I personally adore bloody-soaked mangas, especially long ones.
Long mangas--you can count on a really good character development and intense climaxes (more than one climaxes. each for one arc--and there are all very intense!)
Please, give this a try.
At first i didn't understand why everyone was so crazy about Bleach. So i tried it out. the beginning wasn't all that good, but it gets A LOT better, I'm telling you. If you don't like the first few chapters or whatever, DON'T QUIT! i've become a big fan!!

EDIT: I am still a big fan after 477 chapters later. ALL the characters evolved beautifully. Ichigo is my fav character all the way!! droools

It's getting really boring

I liked this manga in the start, but it seems that the author has no new ideas for the story and so he is only creating new battles to no purpose, just to have something to write...
The quality is declining in the last chapters, and I can only hope that it will improve in the next...

Bleach was pretty good in the beginning. The overall plot was nice, and all of the characters that Kubo introduced had lots of potential. But after soul society arc, things kind of started to drag.

Here's to hoping that Kubo-sensei can get back on track. I'll seriously be looking forward to it.

Bleach was great at first, but it's going down the spiral. Quickly at that. The only reason why I'm still reading it is because of Toushiro Hitsugaya (eye candy XD) and Kon and I want to see how it would end. The plot? What plot?? It's way too long with way too much pointless fighting. Too much characters, and none are well developed. It's hard to get attached to any one because of the staggering amount of characters.

BUT!! I find it awesome that for once, the villains are smarter than the heroes. Kubo-sensei's art is actually better than most shounen. The massive amount of characters makes it easy to find at least one that you like. Even though the humor is kind of stupid, Bleach can still make you smile once in a while. The rare interaction between characters (when they're not fighting for once) is really sweet.

So all in all, it's an interesting read, so if you've got nothing to do and is bored out of you mind, by all means.

I dropped it

I get boring, I dropped the anime series
n I'm going to read the manga after this series has finished. I just want to know the ending story.....
Spoiler (highlight to view)
Too many characters (kinda like Boomerang for this series), too many sidestories... and the main story was pushed behind.
The major characters from early chapters are losing their roles as the story goes. Ichigo definitely is the main char, so he's the central of the story, but what about the others? like ishida..
And the story's getting no where to go... so slow.
Oh yeah, when the battle comes out, the good characters always win... (yep, 99% story always like that at the END, but what i mean here it's too typical! 99% win rate for god characters, 1%: a character, i don't recall who, was loss when protecting 4 pillars, and yet there was no story 'bout how did he lose...),
and there's no one die here?? (cmon, this is sword fight duels... oh so what if they are deathgods? they're still can die...) I mean in the war, both sides must be suffer/loss someting right? They don't even loss a finger. The only victims are the hollow(s)/aranchar(s)... slaughtered.
i don't think after aizen get defeated the story would end... thank's god if it is,
ichigo still doesn't face the hollow who kill his mommy, does he?
and why his daddy left soul society?
what kubo wants for giving taisuki, keigo, etc the power to see spirit? when they don't even influence the story?
where Ururu n her partner, the red hair boy, came from? There was't any mention of them in urahara past story. and they weren't shinigami.. nor human?
too many questions and mess
kubo sensei, if it ever happen that you or any of your staff read this.. please take my advice, don't make this manga your lifetime project.

At first, Bleach is a refreshing, well-drawn manga which gets you hooked. However, as time passes on, it's the same thing over and over again. Fights are drawn out where one person get bashed around, he powers up, the other person gets powered up, he too powers up, and it continues in this pattern until the writer decides he actually has to add something to the story. For a fighting manga, it's frustrating how nobody dies or gets crippled beyond the point of fighting.

There really is little or no plot development as the story progresses. It takes +20 chapters for anything important to happen. Most of the time, chapters are spent showing some ridiculous fight which follows the pattern I stated earlier.

I found the comedy to be boring most of the time. The artist tries to make up for this with girls with big boobs. I have never seen so many disproportionate women in my life.

If you enjoy long artistic fight scenes and cheap comedy, Bleach is the manga for you. If you want an engaging story, I suggest avoiding it. I simply read Bleach because it's a habit now. It's like smoking; once you start, you can't stop. My advice is don't start.

The anime, i have to say, was better. I don't have anything against the manga, per se, but it's really hard to follow a fighting scene when it's not actually moving. Thus, the anime was magnificent.

However, I like the manga because, while it drags things out, it doesn't have to invent things to keep it going. In the anime, you get pointless arcs (Can anyone say bounto?) that don't contribute to the show in any way.

All in all, the manga is good for getting to the point, albiet the long way around, while the Anime is good for actually visualizing things. Kubo isn't the best for action it seems...

all in all 9/10

It has an interesting Idea!

Unbiased Comment Read This

Well, I Hated This So Much when hearing about it so much in 2006, Then i gave the Anime a try, after Soul Society Arc it was dreadful, so i said enough Bleach... Until... 2 Weeks Ago, i decided since i like long Manga, i said sure. . . well
I turned from yes this chapter is the same as the anime, then, i saw a more comedic story full of more suggestive stuff than the anime, when i went along i read past what i watched and i admit, i was feeling like crap, uggh, this is getting boring, but i kept on. yeah some of it was repetitive, but i read and read, till 363 now, and i said, wow, it's not that bad, sure some things are extended, but if you all think that something is bad because everyone tells you it's garbage, or vice versa is stupid, because i enjoyed this, not Yuu Yuu Hakusho, not Dragon Ball Z, but it's an excellent Shonen, you can't deny it's appeal, and you can't say it's bad, don't judge it, just keep reading, the Author can do no wrong, just remember, if he extends it, then just be happy get to read more of it, and have a feel for the character's and situations, i feel obliged to read this to see how it ends just like you should, read it, it's not bad.
9 because it's interesting.

UPDATE 6/18/2022: Full disclosure, I wrote this review something like... 13 years ago maybe? I was 16-17. There was an innocence in reading back my terrible prose. Still, even my younger self would agree with me that Bleach went downhill bad. Not only was the second arc (The Aizen one) stretched out to all hell, but its ending jumped the shark so badly. Severally unsatisfying and wrought with ambitions of avarice. Not hard earned, just empty and cynical. I have read reviews today that the ending is pretty damn bad. Not only that but... come on... Orehime? Really? Whatever, this manga would have been okay if it had stopped at the 2nd major arc, continuing after sealed its fate and legacy, doomed to mediocrity.

Good riddance.
