I got into this series because I saw the cover as one of the advertisements to some scanlation group or something. It looks suuuper shoujo, so I wanted to check out what the hell kind of story goes with this.

Sure it is cliche and stuff, but the effed up stuff that happens in between? That's gold. It's the only reason why I bother to keep up with this series, because Soichiro's been an A-class a-hole until recent chapters and is now humbled with poverty. Also with the recent developments with Nozomu confirming that he's hella cray? It's entertaining, in the way that you can't look away from an ongoing train wreck.

I don't actually get why people are saying it's cr*p ... I really like this manga and it is very different from all the other mangas I've read ...

I got sooo scared at chapter 53 at the end when I thought he nearly died :( ... but then I read the latest chapter (54) and I saw the pain in Nozomu's eyes ... I don't really know what's gonna happen and I love manga with a lot of suspense :D ... Sure Sumi is stupid and she cries too much but what can you do! ... It's a love triangle between two best friends and a girl ... that happens everywhere but not in that way :) ... ok there IS another thing that I think is weird is how Nozomu is creepy and nice the next second?? WT*!! I didn't give it a 10 because of the stupidity of Sumi and her brother -_-" ... but after all that I think that it is quite good 🙂

ok, so at the beginning i loved it. yes, it's quite cliche and kinda far-fetched - but still, the idea was cute. an innocent girl and an arrogant brat meet and their love will most certainly change them into better people...

WRONG!

you get utterly disappointed. there is no development. instead, everything just gets stupid.

you'd think that the sweet sumi would develop into a stronger person or get a clue about what's going on in the world - what with everybody around her being so cultured and her proving herself a real chess genius and all. well, you soon realize that playing chess is about the only intelligent thing she does. yep - her brain is glorious in those times but downright out of order ALL the rest of the time. the author doesn't seem to know the difference between kindness or naiveté and plain idiocy.

the perfect gentleman nozomu turns out to be an obsessed psycho. oh, but that's ok, sumi is stupid enough to forget about his assaults every single time. take a shower at his place, alone? puh-lease, no problem.
i have no problem with a nice dude turning out to be evil, but that guy just went nuts.
oh, and his cute fiancee? psycho #2. she just tries to kill when she get jealous. why not? i, for one, do it all the time...

but i think the manga hit rock bottom when Souichirou quit his job. one minute he's Richy Rich, the next they're all living on the street, eating bread. could someone please explain?
i (almost) forgave the butler quitting his job (souichirou - yet again inexplicably - wouldn't trust him) and deciding to go all CIA on us, but there's a limit to how irrational a story can get. the millionaire dude ends up litterally in the dirt! what, did he return his clothes to his grandfather too? that white shirt he's always wearing was all that was left?

so yeah, i got really disappointed. it could have been really nice, but the author wouldn't spare two minutes to think about her plot. sumi and souichirou are really cute, but sweet scenes don't make a story. plus, someone in his review said that they randomly fell in love, and i agree. it wouldn't have killed to add a couple of scenes in which we are shown what they see in each other. random romance just gets on my nerves.

Well,the art is nice but the story is so full of cliches!!! So many stereotypes too! And if at the start the story was....quite nice ....there's a limit to drama °___°
It should be drammatic but sometimes it makes me laugh xD so much soap-opera-like drama xD
Anyway I guess I'll continue reading it...just to see how it ends 😀

i love this series so much. I cant wait to see what happens next ...SPOILER(?) personally i think that sumi and nozumo are brother and sisters (there are many hints in the book that gave it off), i wish that they are so that he would stop stalking her, but at the same time it would be a little weird.

Although true enough it's quite cliche...but also true enough it's not predictable and I do find myself surprised at times.
However...characters do go to such unbelievable lengths sometimes and I feel like everyone just wants to make the main pair miserable.
And argh, I love Sumi, she's cute, pretty even...she had me liking her more when she had her first Shougi match with that old man. But...most of the time she's just like the typical-annoying-weak heroine...so I'm always wondering "when will she EVER learn?" And not just that...can't she just be true to herself and decide who she really loves? I've become restless over the fact that

she seems to already love Souichirou but won't admit because of their contract. /facepalm.
And she still won't not think about Nozomu when he've done ALL these unbelievable STALKER-ish things to her... If I were her, I'd have slapped him every time he tried to get close. Lmao. Srsly, that guy, I thought he was gonna be fair when he wanted to take away Sumi from Souichirou so I was fine when he first came out as a rival in the story. But now, he just SCARES me. It's FREAKY! Orz

It's quite exhausting to see the two main characters go to so much misery every other chapter or two. I wish Souichirou would soon honestly say out his feelings...even if just in a monologue - while trying to smex Sumi up or something along the lines... /cough. JK. lmao

But all in all...even as I can sit here and would find more of the series' faults and complain about it...I still really like the story. I think the art's a plus aside from the setting. Although the relationships and reactions are rather a bit complicated...I do hope Rinko-sensei do something about it. I understand she's trying something out with this work but I do hope she tries something a lot more exciting and would make the readers relieved for the main protags for once.

And I hope Koumai-san's just playing with Souchirou and Sumi and he didn't really mean to abandon Souchirou...after being there for so long serving him. And the things he said to Sumi...after he said so much before how he was glad she was there for Souchirou.

It's getting confusing now so I hope Rinko-sensei's just having him ACT... Deceiving his friends first before deceiving the enemies...like that!? ^ ^;

Anyways...Will only rate this when the manga's finished :'o

I started reading this manga solely because some blog says it has an honest-to-goodness yandere character. Well, let me say this: He's probably the most memorable male yandere I've ever seen so far. As for the manga itself, well....I have mixed feelings about it...

The Good ::

Pretty art style = the characters and sceneries were generally nice to look at. I particularly love the way the author draws the expressions - so intense xD. However, I can't help but notice inconsistencies at the quality at times.

DECENT Heroine = Miss Sumi is a decent MC for a shoujo. She's naive and uneducated, yes, but the manga succeeds in making me understand her circumstances. Sumi does have some development over time and I can't help but root for her. Her clumsiness does get on my nerves sometimes.

The "Villain" = this is only the biased opinion of a girl who loves male yandere characters. Nozumu has taken a place in my heart as the most memorable. I really would've loved it if he won in the end - bad endings for everyone! Sumi would be married to her brother (that's f**ked up), his father would die out of pure sadness, Souichirou went aboard the ship and come back years later only to find a soulless Sumi holding Nozomu's children. The worst outcome would be that Sumi develops Stockholm syndrome-like symptoms.

I got carried away. Anyways, it was fairly clear even from the beginning that there's something fishy about Nozomu. Who the hell would blatantly show affection on someone's else's wife in broad daylight? Where did the axe-swinging come from?? He's utterly pathetic and ridiculous, but the things he does...Jesus, this f***er is crazy and I love it, hahahaha.

The Meh

The Romance = it was so typical. Girl gets forcefully married to some rich jerk with an oh-so-dark past, and they fall in love for real blah blah Guy chooses girl over money blah blah HAPPY EVER AFTER. Souichirou is childish and tsundere (meeeeh), but he does try to grow up over time.

Mediocre Over-arching story = continuation of 1 Whelp, in my opinion, the story was predictable, except when Nozomu's involved.

The Bad

Out-of-the-blue personality switches = There were times that characters would act OOC out of the blue and with no legit explanation. Plot holes would often result from them. For instance, why the servant guy (forgot his name) betrayed Souichiro we'll probably never know. Also, in the real world, no one would would go from batshit crazy to melo in too short a time. Heck, no one would allow those people to roam the streets. I'm talking about Nozomu here, in the ending.

THE MELODRAMA!!! = most of the time I'd be laughing my butt off over how stupid every human interaction was.

The Rushed Ending = it could've ended much better. I will never understand how Nozomu gets to walk free after all he's done, or why his wife Miu still loves him. Is she crazy as well? It was all so rushed that it left a sour taste in my mouth.

Far more than My Fair Lady.

I read this because I'm a huge fan of Ueda Rinko's work, and I wasn't disappointed.

This starts off as very My Fair Lady-- a rich gentleman tries to train a poor young woman to appear as a wealthy lady for his own purposes. It evolves into so much more than that, though.
Does this series have some cliches? Absolutely. But I've always been of the opinion that if you're going to use a cliche, you have to do it better than everyone else, and I feel that's what the mangaka did here.

The art is by Ueda Rinko, meaning it's beautiful and I have no complaints in that department.

I do have some complaints, though.
One, while I thought the big "twist" was great, it was also relatively apparent from the first volume. At the same time, I can't think of a more subtle way the author could have done it.
Two, even though the primary conflict resolves I realized that there were a great deal of loose ends elsewhere. Even though the climax overshadows them, it still left me feeling very... incomplete.
Three, (without spoilers) some characters motivations and feelings were very unclear at certain parts; as if their development was rushed because the plot needed to do something or turn a certain way. It was just a handful of specific moments where I absolutely could not figure out why a character would do something.

Overall, I loved this. I highly recommend it to any fan of shoujo.

It Had Potential.

It wasn't a complete disaster, but it was far from being great. I really liked the story, it was just the characters that infuriated me. They were like children! It was like a bunch of bratty kids getting married, running companies and playing pretend. It was annoying.

Sumi, although one of the most infuriating types of shoujo characters, was my favorite character. Only because she was whole-hearted and had an excuse to be whiny and naive. Everyone else: BLEH to hell with them!

I think the story would have been sooooo much better, like top level manga better, if the characters were a bit more mature. If Souichirou acted more like the head of a company, if Nozumo wasn't so damn pathetic(not that I didn't like the rivalry, he just didn't have to be boarder-line crazy), and if Sumi was a bit more assertive.

The storyline was great, the drama was great, the romance was...ok. But, geez, those characters were so darn annoying. Sumi and Komai and occasionally Nozumo (when he wasn't being stalkerish he was pretty badass) were about all I could take (not that there are that many characters...)

The story had sooooo much potential, like the storyline and characters were created be completely different people. They just don't fit. Sensitive, bratty kids in a dramatic and mature story were an awful combination.

I demand a redo! I will not revisit this story in the future, but it wasn't a complete waste of time. Maybe if it was shorter I would have been able to tolerate it, but dealing with those idiots for 57 chapters was too much.

If you haven't read it, give it a try. Like I said it wasn't a complete disaster, but it probably will not be a memorable read for many people.

I know how this story ends but I still think she and Nozumo are perfect together.

And....I know I am the minority on that one, but I also really disliked Soichiro. He is a real jerk from the beginning and he is not honest to Sumi at all, as well as very scheming into getting the Injunn finances and what not. He betrayed one of his close friends and didn't care. (maybe a little towards Sumi, but he actually grew up with Nozomu!)

Anyway, to stay on the actual point (lol got a little derailed XD) I totally saw the revelation coming, about half way through the story I got a feeling. I don't really care about incest though so to me it didn't seem to matter. Whoops, I guess that's another kill joy to a lot of people.

The ending, however, was way to simple. I think I would have liked more depth. I am glad everyone is trying to find peace in the end, but it still it felt plastic to me, and rushed.

Nevertheless, I would still recommend this series. There is a lot of suspense, dynamic plots and turns, sexy bishes, and drama. Sumi is also always gorgeous and the art in this book is impeccable. I sometimes just have to stare (I mean those shower scenes......) Anyway, if you like romance, give it a go.
