Description
From Tokyopop:
Gods and demons wage a neverending battle with the mortal realm as their battlefield. As with most longstanding feuds, the reasons are no longer important - hatred is a way of life. But it is foretold that one would arise who could restore harmony between gods and demons. Enter Raenef... heir to a set of demon royalty, he is hardly courtly material. The demon king assigns Eclipse to be his tutor, to mold Raenef into proper demonic shape. The two begin a journey of discovery and are soon joined by a human knight and a god-blessed priest.

Average but Fun

While not something that would be investing, Demon Diary is short and amusing. If there are any Clamp lovers out there, it more or less felt to me like a soft-core version of RG Veda.

The first few chapters of the story set it up as though it will be a long read that will delve into the world and workings of the demons, which is why the ending can feel pretty abrupt even with the completed plot. The plot itself is not well focused on, and the final motivations and occurrences feel sort of made up on the spot without regard to the previous world construction.

These things keep the story from being serious and exciting, and bring it around to more of a feel good story to read in your spare time. Definitely a cute read if you're looking for a quick fix of comedy and magical fun.

Also, if youre looking because the rumours of shounen-ai, I wouldnt recommend Demon Diary as the only relationship close to shounen-ai is written more as a parental bond than romance.

More or less enjoyable

The first thing I'd ever read with shounen ai subtext quite a few years back. I remember enjoying this quite a bit initially as the alternate world constructed was so detailed at first. However, a thing that bothered me was how the potential of the world was not fully taken advantage of and in the end, the whole thing felt relatively unexplored.

By the chapter where leeche came in i was done. I wanted the plot to focus on the demon lord and his servant (bad memory) but then they started collecting all their enemies and forming a posse or something. it makes the whole demon thing not believable. Btw i hate leeche. Just putting that out there.

Demon diary was the first Manhwa I read, and I really enjoyed it because the main character is really cute and unique smile I love the humor, it's really funny but I think it might be too childish for someone. The plot itself is good ;D

I found it lacking... It had a whole world of demons .-. but it went relatively unexplored. I liked the art though, and the chibis are adorable. I wish that the story had more time to develop... especially the part where the 2nd personality of Raenef comes into the picture.

I thought it was okay. It was moderately entertaining and the art was okay. I thought that the characters were interesting.
I'm not really a fan of shounen-ai, but this series can go either way. You can look at their relationship as love or friendship.
I liked the fact that the series was fantasy most of all. ^_^

I enjoyed this series quite a bit. It had humor and fantasy, which I like. Raenef is so inept at first that you feel really bad for him. Eclipse is a great character - this tough guy demon who ends up caring about his master and not just himself. Erutis and Chris are like the comedic sidekicks. The plot is a simple one, but it works well. There was a writer change after the first volume, and you can tell. There is a little bit of a gap before the story jumps back into full swing. The second writer is better than the first however, so it was good that the series was finished by this one. Some may find the split personally of Raenef confusing, but one just needs to pay attention to the story a little closer. The art is nice in this one, even though I'm not a fan of the overuse of chibis. That is my one complaint on this one - too much chibi stuff. It detracts from the rest of the art. I have seem this manga listed as yaoi on occasion - not sure where someone got that. First of all, it's rated T. There is loyalty between Raenef and Eclipse, but loyalty cannot be mistaken for yaoi in this one at all. I recommend this one to anyone liking fantasy, and demon stories.

Dont need to dwell on this being yaoi/shounen-ai or not. Its in the eyes of the beholder, if you dont like boyxboy then read it with the mind that the 2 main chars are just loyal and caring. if you are a boyxboy lover like myself then look at the story in that way. No probs!

An interesting manga in my view. Too bad the ending was rushed.

All in all a 7 for me, worth a read!

it was amazing.. it's such a shame that the story writers got switch in the earlier volumes, since i could sense that there were some deeper aspects that were yet to be explored..

but still, great.

Not that I'm a fan of shonen ai in the first place, but having only read 3 of this genre so far, I believe this was the "worst" in my opinion.... I couldn't get much past the first volume though, so maybe it picks up later....
