The story is unique with the use of elements of survival game with bomb strategies and the decision between ethics and to kill in the real life game.
The main guy is quite smart. The author has well depicted all sorts of emotion of the characters. I think that the main guy is still young, that's why he can't act calm all the time. If the main guy only acted cool like the sunglasses-guy, I think the story would be different and there won't be tension and excitement filled within the story. So I'm ok with how the story has been set up. It makes me want to follow the story and want more of it. And the plot and pace is well done and the art and graphic is a plus.
May be I'm kinda new to this genre, but this manga gives me tension and excitement.
With Yen Press licensing it, I think it's worth the wait and worth to buy.

So we have a flawed-but-obviously-on-the-good-side protagonist, a possible love interest, a handful of sane competitors that will probably die, and many more who are completely insane (but will probably last the majority of the series). There are alterations and revisions, but it basically follows the survival framework developed decades ago. Hopefully the mangaka knows what they're doing with character backstories, or else this manga will just become another drop in the pail. Something that seems interesting at first glance, but after closer scrutiny reveals itself to be just another time-waster full of gratuitous violence, sex, and gore, but lacking the key factors that make a compelling story.
*Update* and the author has succeeded. Not exactly fresh and new, but definitely interesting and well worth reading.

The setting's maybe the same as in battle royal, but unlike in battle royal this manga provides us strategic thoughts too, whereas in battle royal they just fight like crazy with some highschool kids, which only think about simple thoughts like "Lets make a team yay!". It remindes me kinda of chess and the idea with the radars is very exciting too. I'm looking forward to the romance and what will happen next.
In my opinion way more gripping than battle royal.

I am a sucker for survival manga, so I like this one. The idea that he is a secret expert at the game is quite interesting, and they can really develop that storyline. I hope we see more diverse characters. My only gripe is that they basically told us the concept and the reality of the island already.

Don't ignore this simply because people are saying its comparable to another manga. At least give it a chance. I am at chapter 19 currently and this manga seems to have a lot of potential. I am currently reading various manga/manwha but this is definitely a good read. Amongst the numerous manga I am currently reading, this is one the few works I have great anticipation for. I won't wait impatiently for a story unless it's good. Don't stop reading after the first chapter. Give it a chance as it develops quite well.

There are alot of comments on here saying it really isn't a good read, but it is! Yea it's reminiscent of Battle Royale (I actually stoped reading that series.) but it's different in ways. Tbd art is nice, and the action scenes are nice. I absolutely love the story!
I loved Taire (I hope I spelt his name right.) until he went weird, I have a weakness for those characters. The romance was good too, I love a good action series with actual romace, not just some half backed akwardness and just blushing. There are some explicit scenes, but this is seinen, it's aimed for an older adult male audience not for girls XD. So if your not interested in all the gore, explicit acts, pantsu shots, and the showing of breast than go read shounen!
There is also an anime, the openinv is just fantastic! Also it's more toned down.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
The fact that its totally random people sent to battle was a plus, and how tbey got therd by the grudges of people they wronged. Some are there by mistake of blame too.

I haven't read the best known survival manga like "Battle Royale" and "Gantz" but I soon will after reading this manga. I plot is really interesting when the protagonist is playing the game in real life. Of course they have to much some ecchi in it for fan service but it's okay to me because it's not too excessive that it will ruin the plot.
The downside to the story is that many of the things about the survival manga is already shown. I'm not excited to read this manga as much as other manga's because pretty much everything is explained in 30 chapters. Like other said the plot is starting to just become where the main character beats/kills is opponent and next come the other enemy. It's kind of getting repetitive and so I am thinking if the author can really end the manga on a good note.
Overall it's a really good read. Don't expect a masterpiece work but the plot is interesting and keeps you wanting more.

I've been hooked since the start! It is highly likely that there will be betrayal is this series and I hope there will be some twists, turns, drama, and action that will keep my interest peeked.

Is it just a coincidence? Some of the chaps in the manga were given names (different in only the last kanji character) borrowed from one Sengoku warrior or another... For example Oda Nobutaka (Oda Nobunaga), Uesugi Kenya (Uesugi Kenshin), Date Masahito (Date Masamune), Akechi Mitsuo (Akechi Mitsuhide), Imagawa Yoshiaki (Imagawa Yoshimoto)...

Its better that I imagined it to be.(minor spoilers ahead)
I like the premise of a NEET in a kill-or-be-killed situation. And about the setting... it’s not that there are that many places where a survival death game with bombs can be realistically organized. So the uninhabited jungle island is perfect. So it’s bound to cross into other similar works of the same genre. My personal opinion is that Btoom! is more entertaining.
The main reason why I go hourly at japanzai to check is because o the main hero. Sakamoto is the kind of hero I like to read about. Not the perfect, shining hero. No… he doesn’t qualify even as a decent human. But if he wasn't that screwed he wouldn’t have been selected for this deadly game. (BTW why do rich folk enjoy so much to watch gladiatorial\survivor-of-the-last games?) So you have all the rejects of society dropped on an island and armed with different kinds of bombs. The choice of weapon makes for some strategic decisions and this is something that differentiates this from other mangas. Still the action scenes are great and well-balanced.
Sakamoto is in the same ally as Kei Kurono of Gantz, lots of flaws but super cool if he is forced to. There is the beginning of a romance in the recent chapters, but I thing the girl(15 years old) is a lil bit to young for him(22). But after he killed somebody does pedophilia sound much worse? And yeah what’s his frigging hair color: in the covers he has jet dark hair and in the manga it looks blonde.
A must read (for me at least).
