Description

When portals called “gates” opened in 1997, humanity was thrown into chaos as monsters ravaged the planet. Countless lives were lost, including Eunha Cha’s mother. No way. MC HAS A CAT! A black/cosmic/gold-outlined cat!!!!! She even has the classic Hime haircut.😭

WARNING: Skip the first spoiler, unless you want to read about EGL fashion.

Alright, okay, so the fashion rep is rather painfully inept but it's at least trying. At this point, as someone who've worn the fashion since the 90s, I'll fucking take it.

I mean, it's got the neckline correct. AMAZING.

(Try wearing stiletto heels to an EGL meet-up. Do it. See how well that'll be received.

There's a very good reason why we're known to be very elitist and holier than thou. We gatekeep the shit out of this fashion because of how painfully newbies and ~~filthy~~ casuals almost always get it wrong.)

To be exact MC is wearing the Kuro substyle of EGL. Uneducated, uncultured people (even within the subculture itself) will call it "Gothic" but that's 100% wrong. There's zero Christian religious symbols involved, which is what Gothic Lolita has...along with a more risque, experimental cut to the clothes.

(EGL is a very, very strictly defined and regulated style, if you haven't caught on yet.)

Kuro means "black" in Japanese, where this street style originated. It's an offshoot of the ultra cute, ultra lacy, ultra frilly, pintucked, ruffled, gathered, shirred, bow-bedecked and accessorized Sweet substyle, except all completely in black, which Sweet Lolita is most definitely not.

And NO. We have nothing to do with Nabokov's book. If anything the style is repressively demure.

A properly, correctly, outfitted Lolita will show their hands, maybe a bit of the forearms, neck and face. That's it. A lot of the time, everything is covered except the face.

As for the story itself? The action, so far, is pretty good. The fight scenes are dynamic, creative and fun.

The MC is also relatable. The story does a satisfactory job to explain the world.

The "can't say name" thing is stupid, however. MC had a piece of paper that has her name on it. All she had to do was point at it.

She can't mention the Cat or acknowledge its existence to someone else, but at no point did the Cat say she can't do that. The exact translation is that MC can't use or say her own name anymore.

So, I'm really confused. Does that affect her trying to point it out? How about just cutting the name out? Or even folding the paper so that only the name is shown?

She can't even do that?

Ugh. The Cat is fucking annoying. Why?!??? It's not even the funny kind of annoying. It's just loud and takes up too much room.

Can't say much else since there's only about 20 chapters out.

A very cautious 7 out of 10 so far.

Oooh, that 1st S Rank guy. The ice user who's the Avatar of the Dog...

he's more complex than I thought. I like how selfish he is. I even like his cowardly side. It makes sense to me after knowing his background.

Still, I hope MC ends this contract when the 1 year is up. That guy is nit interesting enough to take up this much space.
