Description
From Nakama:

For a captain and a subordinate, pure love is born out of an unfeeling time of war, strict rules and order, and a superior-subordinate relationship. Settled in the southern front, a subordinate, Hayakawa, is often punished for causing minor problems by the strict captain, Takeuchi. However there is a secret between the two of them… The war ends, and time passes by. The two return to Japan on their decommissioned ship and decide to live together, but…

only the first story (and extra)

I would have liked a whole volume of the first story. But the other one(s) in this volume were not good.

Rape can be used well, or played as not serious as a plot device in yaoi all the time... but this one was just terrible. There was no development of the relationship with the characters before the rape, and then it was just not taken seriously at all? Why am I supposed to believe the seme is a nice guy? You just showed me that he's a rapist, but I'm supposed to believe that he's nice because you say so...? Nope. Pass.

I'd rate much higher if it wasn't for the rape

First story was really nice and really conveyed the feeling of PTSD and the forlorn, even nostalgic feelings one gets when addressing a large trauma. Wish we could have seen more of the couple getting it on on the island, tho. lol.

The story with the idiot was really cute and a little sad, and instantly made me interested in the story of their friends. I was super into the friend story when THAT happened and I was all like "ugh, unnecessary off-putting stuff to try to drive drama in a BL story, what else is new, world?" the unrequited love and yearning trope is so successful in BL, it doesn't need anything else! And then the mangaka tried to play it off like it was the player friend's fault which made me :///////// I really wanted to like that story.

I still think this author has a lot to grow in terms of visual presentation and coherent narration, because sometimes her art could get really muddy and confusing (even though I like the style) and it could hinder the normal reader's comprehension of and appreciation for her work. Criticisms aside, though, I quite like how she told most stories in this collection and how she actually made them work. Not everyone can pull off these sorts of melancholic and melodramatic plots imo, but she somehow did and rather surprised me with that.

I liked the army story (ch 1, 2 and extra) and the confused anatomy (ch 3 and 4) the best out of the volume. During the first chapter, I thought the mangaka might take the story in the direction of Hiroo Onoda's real-life story in the Philippines but with a BL twist. Sadly, the mangaka did not do this. But I would love to read something like that!

As for the 'confused anatomy' story, the beginning was funny but I felt the underlying sadness of the situation was not conveyed very well.

I didn't really like the story about the friends of the guy in 'confused anatomy' because the transition from one sided to reciprocation was too fast.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Especially due to the lack of romance and the fact that rape was treated so nonchalantly.

And chapter 7 was alright but nothing special.
