Description
The Arisaka sisters (Hatsune and Kazuki) and the Kagura siblings (Yuuji and Marie) lived next door when they were smaller. So close that they could climb onto each other's verandas from the 2nd floor. They would always play together until one day the Kagura siblings had to move.
It's been 10 years and the Kagura siblings are moving back! Yuuji's turned into a pervert and Marie isn't the crybaby she used to be?

Very Average

To me, the manga is very average. Good, but not great and at times very boring as it becomes repetitive with no story progression. I dislike several of the manga's characters,
but I really like Marie and I like Kazuki and Chihaya as well. It has it's moments, but it's very far from being anything special.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
namely Yuuji (acts like he's five... I know there's a reason for it, but still.. grow up), Hatsune (always hated the Mary Sue types, even if just used for comedy, especially if they use their abilities to manipulate people and dominate them) and Kogorou-sensei (he's was a 24 year old pedophile in love with a 16 year old girl... and fell for her when she was just 14... where I come from, that's grounds for being castrated)
but I really like Marie and I like Kazuki and Chihaya as well. It has it's moments, but it's very far from being anything special.

To make it blatantly clear, this contains no spoiler's other than the first chapter, which is covered in the Description box.
*Cough Cough*, when i read the reviews to this manga, i just can't stay silent. In the comments it's like: On one hand, it's stupid, has no plot and cliche'd characters, and on the other hand, it's stupid, has no plot and cliche'd characters, but i still like it.
It drives me up the wall, About it having no plot, i can't speak about, since i only read the first chapter, or did i, i may have stopped a little after he jumps through her window or something. Anyway It doesn't look like it's planning some kind of plot, i think the only thing the Author did was set up the gimmick, which is, they are great friends and they knew each other, but they get separated only to meet years later to find that they aren't who they used to be.
One of the most annoying things i can say about this is, The A: Perverted Dude (Who's supposed to be the main lead, What is this the 80's?!!!) and B: The Militaryish Chick sister, they are trying to make this into a before and after image with a Wacky effect, but fails way low. To think, i was just going to make a small comment of the series but the hate keeps rushing in.
I believe i would put up with the bad story, if the lead male wouldn't have been a pea-brained, shallow, stupid, shameless, retarded, nonchalant pervert!!! I mean he could show Urusei Yastsura's Protagonist a thing or too.
I also hate the, "He's a pervert!" followed by "He's a nice guy after all" and then for comedic effect "Never mind! He' still a pervert!!!!" Style of Attitude...
If you want a manga you either love or hate, which in my case, i love, read No Bra
If you want a manga that's sweet and nice, but a very slow moving Romance try Pastel
Another thing, i think this manga is terrible, but by no means deserves a 1,2,3, or even 4, i think manga in general never deserves a horrible score, unless like a user who's name escapes me said,
"The only reason to give a manga a 1, is if it (Literally) killed your goldfish or made you (Physically and Literally) Vomit"

I have been wanting to review this one for a while but hadn't gotten around to it because I couldn't quite figure out what I wanted to say. If I put on my critic hat and start deconstructing this series then there is certainly plenty to find fault with. The story seems cliche, it is loaded with cheap fan service, it's slow and doesn't seem to really go anywhere, etc. And yet, on a completely personal level I find myself eagerly anticipating every chapter that is released. There are honestly few mangas I enjoy as consistently as this one.
You know how there are some very serious mangas out there which can be technically excellent and have very deep story lines, but are on some level difficult to actually enjoy reading at times? Tona-Gura is pretty much the exact opposite of that. It is flawed, somewhat shallow, but always fun. It's my comfort food of manga.
Its best feature is how much love the author shows for the characters. True, things do move slowly, but as you read on they really do get fleshed out and start to feel like real people. They are not simply cheap stereotypes, which is something pretty rare for an ecchi romance manga. Yuuji may be a pervert, but he's a loveable pervert, damn it. Takahashi4me's excellent review before mine did this subject more justice than I can here so I suggest you read it.
Though there may be dozens of superficially similar mangas out there, and yet I don't enjoy any of them as much as I enjoy this one. One reviewer described Tona-Gura as similar but "way worse" then Love Hina. I can not disagree with that statement more. Love Hina was only good when it was being absurd. The actual characters were cookie-cutter stereotypes and the romantic development had all the grace of a rhinoceros in a leotard. The story in Tona-Gura may not be deep, but the characters are and as a reader you genuinely want to see them work out their differences. And once you get hooked you will want to keep coming back for more.

It's very similar to love hina (but way worse) with a few differences here and there.
Very loose story line get annoying some time. It wants to be funny but rarely is.
a C rate manga. read when you are extremely bored.

Very fun to read [ at least I don't need to think to read this one ]
If you are looking anything serious or beyond lolness look elsewhere. This manga doesn't have any weight / quality to some people who always think 'PERFECT' and I WANT THE PROTAGONIS LIKE I WANT TO BE
Main character is NOT USELESS and FAILS at everything, U haven't read all the chapters and see all the Animes/ reference.
[ Pretty hard to find , a protagonist [ a male ] that is VERY OPEN in his feeling and doesn't feel any embarassment at all ]

if you are looking for plot movement or any sort of progress, look elsewhere. Each chapter is as meaningless as the next one. Not even very funny. I mean, if you like the type of manga where the main character is useless and fails at EVERYTHING, go ahead. Some sentimental moments at the end of each chapter, but mostly cliche and worthless...

Strange that there aren't any comments. Anyways, I'm really curious to see how the manga turns out, since the anime got pretty much nowhere. In the anime the only development in their relationship was:
1) She hates his pervertedness.
2) She's ok with it.
3) She hates it again.
4) She accepts his pervertedness, series ends.
Pretty pathetic -.-
Anyhoo, really enjoying it so far, might even get the non-translated volumes a bit later on. Recommend this as a fun ecchi read, with an especially enjoyable main character whose open about his feelings. VERY open
