We have a party of five main characters who are all, to varying degrees, utter morons. Each character has one central identifying personality trait. These sorts of simple characters can work well in a slice of life or comedy setting, such as the author’s prior work, Hitoribocchi. Unfortunately they decided to try to write this story as a serious action/adventure instead. What results is five complete idiots waltzing through serious apocalypse situations with no real idea what is going on or what the stakes are. There could, perhaps, be some humour in that idea itself however the author isn’t writing it in a humour focused way. It winds up just being a tonally dissonant mess.
