Like PoT

It's PoT for cooks, though this is more fleshed out and better overall. In one color page of the manga Megumi held a racquet with her kind expression and pigtails and I had to laugh. I enjoyed PoT. This is simply the better story.

I keep reading it over and over. And watching the anime- generally I prefer manga but the anime does the visually comedic moments so well. And it doesn't stray too much from the manga's content!

I enjoy all the varying dynamics of cooking styles and personality clashes. It's a super fun story well told. And it's friggin' hilarious.

Worst School ever.

This "school" requires you to pass a hard entrance test to see if you are a decent enough chef already. Then throughout their semesters they regulary "fail" students, and they get expelled. They never teach their students, just test them, and test them some more. Infact, the only time a student is ever taught anything is when they get expelled. "Your expelled! because you shoulda done this or you did this wrong!" This is less a school and more a 3-year long tournament where you self study cooking.

There was a day when I thought Code Geass would be the greatest anime ever, and now the day has come when I now think Shokugeki No Soma is the greatest manga ever. I love how the world of manga and anime keeps evolving to greater heights. From the in depth character development, to the amazing creativity and flawless design, to unique battle format, and especially the crazy food orgasms, This is a ride you don't want to miss. ^^

Also Try not to mind the constant eroticness, while it may be a red flag for some(such as myself), the story is just too good to pass up. Besides it's Japanese anime/manga, if your looking for something clean go watch Tom and Jerry smile (which is a master piece of it's own btw)

Creative and delicious!

When i was suggested to read this manga, i dropped it a few times because of the prologue as I'm not a fan of ecchi. Like some ecchi manga, I thought it will be full of fan-service and no story. This manga however, maybe 5-10 chapters in, starts the drama and I couldn't put it down. The reactions from the judges/tasters also get less pornographic as you continue, and more relative with the "taste" of the dish.

What i really love about the manga, is that if you get absorbed into it - you really do feel the tension and the atmosphere of the place. I think the art is absolutely gorgeous and it does play a part in this. I find myself sometimes just starring at the page because the art is flawless. Character-wise it's really up to your taste. Some people hate different characters, and some people love them. There's enough variety for everyone.

started great but is now predictable and repititive

This actually was fun starting out
even mid
but after like a 100 chapters im starting to burn out
theres too much a repition and predictable pattern now
standard shounen tournamenty elements
throw in the cliche and fanservices (sexual and other wise) in galore

ugh this is killing me.... its popular yes but its popular like naruto and bleach.... this thing is too shallow and the drama and twists..even for a comedy ..are awful...shallow, predictable....
so lacking creativity...and very very very forced

this has become just another cheap factory product rather than something custom, unique and great like that made of an artisan...
its like someone gathered all the pattern datapoints on high selling manga... and programmed a software program to machine write a chapter content and focus...

If you're okay with something looks like it was wrtten and directed by a machine and then factory made ..u should be fine...

if you want something more creative... dont..DONt read this ull regret it once u get into it and start hating it... simlar the Im Dal Young effect

Dropped

The main character is annoying and boring. He's like a dumber, Gary Stu'ed version of Ash Ketchum.
Every single chapter I've read has been the same so far. MC challenges/gets challenged, comes up with something good enough to make the eater take up a single page/double spread to orgasm at his food, and then wins.

The only good point is the art.

I love cooking and I heard good things about this manga, so I'm super dissapointed with how bad it is.

Funny Food

An overall interesting series, but ultimately unwilling to try anything new, have and outcome that isn't completely predictable, or challenge any of the common shounen cliches.

- Likeable but extremely dense MC? check
- Defeat equals friendship? check
- MC always wins? check
- First person to reveal their trump card always looses? check
(in this case, whoever presents their dish first has, at best, a 0.1% chance of winning)
- Lack of meaningful character development for the MC? check
- Power of nakama defeats all? nope, at least it skipped that one (though it would probably try if it wasn't a cooking series)

Despite all of that, it's still fairly good (especially the art and comedy), just don't expect anything new.

Awesome manga

As long as you don't read too much into the cooking techniques and the reactions of the people who eat, you should enjoy this manga immensely. The MC is the kinda character you can't find fault with. He is good at what he does, he has talent, and he has potential, and so he grows too. Plus he has a lot of competition and rivals, creating an atmosphere that will excite readers.

The art is just delicious. There are a myriad of interesting characters. I have no problems whatsoever with the ecchi.

Spoilers below, but I feel you should know this before reading, as I counted on this when I began reading but was somewhat let down.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Despite the romance tag, there has been zero romance. Nothing at all. The MC has shown no interest in any girl. A comment the MC's dad made hinted at future romance, but so far there has been none, and we are 76 chapters in.

Just Great

This manga is just great! When I started reading, I wasn't able to eat anything at the time because i was broke and i had to wait for my paycheck to come in. My friend showed it to me to be funny. Well I'm glad he did. Even crap i'm positive will taste absolutely disgusting look delicious in this manga. (This may be because I was starving and my clothes looked delicious but who cares?) I don't know a lot about cooking, but I've seen cooking shows from time to time back when I lived with my mom. This is way better.

I'm almost always against fanservice because it detracts from the story telling and is usually used in a desperate attempt to grab fans where their would be none. The reason I refuse to continue with bleach and Fairy Tail. But for some reason I think it actually makes this story stand out more. The art really compliments the ecchi (Probably because the artist draws H manga as well) and they don't use Ecchi except for when it actually is useful to the story telling. Now here me out. They don't randomly go around flashing their boobs and insinuating sex all the time. They don't show panty shots at random just to get preteens to get interested. They use ecchi scenes to show how good the food is. For some odd reason, when the food is good enough, girls loose their minds and they go into a dreamworld where their wildest fantasies come true and their clothes fly off for no reason. Weird but fun to watch.

Best part is the Main Character. The MC is just capable. He's not perfect and annoying and he's not horrible and annoying as well. The main character has a clear goal that he's driven to and wishes to complete. The character interactions are just marvelous and the whole thing just runs smoothly. I'de recommend this to anyone!!!!! Unless you can't handle the Ecchi!

I completely agree with kujika (below post).
The 1st girl (mind u, not the main girl, I hope not) is supposed to be world-class taste judge/god tongue whatsoever. However, she failed the MC bc of personal level without regret. In addition, she never acknowledge his strength. The whole time I was like "is she really good or she just know to bounce her boobs around?" I still dont understand why people call her tsundere. She is just plain mean and good at hold grudges.
I gave it a 10 now bc she doesnt appear that much. And MC is awesome, he is confident, and he's very good at dealing with losing. I dont see him arrogant at all. He only talks back to people who attacks him 1st (unlike that girl who hates and thinks everyone is stupid).
The 2nd girl is good. I hateee weak and crybaby characters. Surprisingly, I like her bc of how she tried to change herself to get stronger.
I'm not really into ecchi fanservice (bad experience from Fairy Tail) so I didnt want to start it but it was not that bad. Its rather weird humor and well, both girls and guys can enjoy it.
