Of the stories in this volume that I have read thus far (3), they are cute but short. Each one feels like it is only the beginning of a much longer story but they have no follow up.
The first story had a lot of unresolved issues for me like why the main character had been chatting up men in the first place while his sister seemed terrified of them and only wished to remain next to her brother. It was an interesting concept but needed much better execution and at least a few more chapters.
The second story felt devoid of romance to me. Alright, so the step father cared a lot for his step son, I find no fault in that. As for the mother, her character was horribly put together. I get her love cooling off with her husband, but that's no reason to abandon the child she seemingly cared for (even if she never entertained his opinions when making a huge life choice for the both of them). Overall, the story felt awkward because the characters didn't seem to have the necessary emotional depth they should being in the position they were. The main character had his mother walk out on him in his mid teens without so much as a goodbye. The step father had his wife walk out on him, leaving her child in his care and divorce papers she expected him to sign without a word either (I would have liked to see him refuse to sign the papers until she came back and faced him properly... if anything, at least she wouldn't be able to remarry another person until then). And then there was the lawyer who on one hand talked to her and did everything as she wished, and then turned around and told the others he couldn't understand her decisions... Why not stop her yourself if you're going to feel so bad about it and empathize with the others?! Overall, the situation needed much clearing up...
As for the third story, this has probably been my favourite so far simply because the storyline wasn't as muddled as the other stories. The main character clearly had some affection for the other and was slowly developing a relationship... whether it would become romantic or stay platonic was another matter and again, the story felt unresolved.
Overall, so far the stories are okay to pass the time or to imagine what could happen afterwards, but I wouldn't recommend this one for people looking for a really good, short, sweet read.
