I wonder whether it already is or whether it could be possible for a user to filter (off) manhua/manhwa releases. Personally, I'm only interested in original Japanese manga, and browsing through other releases can be a bit of a bother sometimes.

I'm currently filtering releases by their genre, so applying other filters shouldn't be too difficult... Or is it?

Go to User CP > Edit Profile. There’s an option to filter by “Type” and you can choose what you want to see on the release page.
