I've read lots of manga, but I never read a manga where the female is the player. It always has been the male and I sort of tired of it. Why does the male always get what they want?! Haha.

You could delve into shounen romances. Typically the situation you refer to only occurs in shoujo manga, so if you want the popular person loved by many of the opposite gender to be female, you'll look in shounen. It's a perception thing. Internally, everyone is insecure about the opposite gender, so based on the audience the author is written for, roles are switched.

I don't think that's what player means. By the way, players don't have to be popular at school. They can have sex with loads of people but are still not one of the popular kids. Sex is not that hard to find. Being popular doesn't mean one is a player. Instead, in shounen mangas, the popular girl who is also the male lead's love interest or likes him is not portrayed as a player (they are usually "pure" and "innocent" despite being popular, and tsunderes too, sometimes).

I think some girls in Deai are probably close to what you are looking for. They are the type who have no steady boyfriends and take sex relatively lightly. Are you OK with this type? I think Honeymoon Salad and Haru yo, Koi also have such women. Love Junkies and even Futari Ecchi can probably fit too. But I am not sure whether you will be interested in them. One of the stories in What a Wonderful World also has such a teenage girl (probably not player in any sense though).

If you want the real playgirl or "promiscuous" types, I can't help you with that at the moment. But I will probably add more titles when I can think of any.

This topic makes me think how formulatic shounen and shoujo romances' characterization is.

Edit: OK, I guess a woman in the second story of Koi kara Hajimaru is a player (cheating on her partner). It's not as explicit as most hentai and the plot is kinda decent (and worth a read even for a female and non-hentai reader if you want something different from your usual shoujo plot). The wife of the male lead in Aisuru Hito is definitely a player. A main character in Talking about... is a real playgirl.

Well, otherwise the idea of male players isn't really common, unless we're talking smut. And again, that still means that we're sitting in the wrong genre. Quite a bit of josei holds female characters with a far more dominant position in relations, some even juggling boyfriends.

Now, you're saying that rather than someone fairly popular with the opposite gender, I was supposed to assume male-slut? Well, I guess we could look up female-sluts then.

Loved by many of the opposite gender doesn't mean he/she will do anything with those who fancy him/her. It's not uncommon to find characters who are popular but only like the protagonist. By player I was thinking someone who at least sees more than one person at the same time or has had a lot of casual girlfriends/boyfriends and few serious relationships (a lot of guys in shoujo are like that so I assumed they were what the OP was talking about).

Being dominant or not in a relationship is not relavant to being a player or not.
