Do you prefer your love stories to be realistic (ex. Kou Kou Debut) or just widly unbelievable (though you wish it could be real) like Snow Drop?

*NOT TALKING ABOUT GENRES*

Personally I love the make believe crap but in the end I always feel so sad because it really sets up an ideal that will never happen.

What do you prefer and why?

Mix it up.

If it's too realistic, then I'd rather experience it, not read about it. And if it's too fantastical, than it's not worth reading since it's almost a joke trying to take it seriously.

Oh I get that.
But sometimes people can be nitpicky and say "oh well that could NEVER happen".
Just wondering if a lot of people care.

I think it also depends on if you are looking for a realistic/dramatic story. Like if I pick up a manga, read the description and think its going to be realistic... then end up with some crap; I'm going to be disappointed.

I like both. It's nice to aspire to that picture-perfect unrealistic romance, but it's also nice to read stories that could be happening next door. I'm easy. If it's romance, I'll pretty much eat it up.

i like fantasies!!
with all the magical stuff...and i think that its more romantic that way...but sadly it would not happen it real life <or would it??>
anyways...realistic romance in manga is kindda depressing for me at times...and im reading manga to escape the harsh reality of life...

I guess it depends on the story and how well-written it is. What is realistic is different to different people. I don't even like some supposedly "realistic" stories as some elements of them bother or bore me. Same goes to fantastical stories. Most of the time when I don't like something, it's because I don't like the characters or other elements, not because of how unrealistic or realistic it is.

I am usually not interested in stories set in high school as I find most of them boring no matter how realistic or something others say they are. Some fantasy stories, however, can have something I find interesting therefore I like them. Story set in a fanatsy world doesn't mean the characters must act completely unrealistically.

By the way, "realistic" doesn't necessarily mean a happening next door story. For example, historical upper class romance is probably not this type and can still be realistic and offer artistic values in its own way, which I would also appreciate. I take setting and character backgrounds into consideration when judging whether something is realistic.

I'd rather read the more realistic manga.

Though Koukou Debut wouldn't be what I call a realistic manga...something more like Cousin is what I'd say is realistic.

I guess I like the fantastical stories just because they cheer me up and make the world seem wonderful, but in the end I really prefer more realistic stories since its much more believable. Now, some realistic stories are just dull and I think, why read it when its exactly what happens in the real world. I guess where I'm going with this is that there has to be a balance between reality and fantasy to make a truly entertaining story.

Well I like both, but I prefer fantasy, reading fantasy doesn't effect my real life mood or love life or anything and it doesn't depress me. As long as there are big emotions I'm cool with the story.

Manga I'm loving ATM: Heart no Kuni no Alice

A mix but more leaning on the optimistic fantasy-ish side. I dont want anything cold like Nana or Deep Love. I stick with stuff like Dengeki Daisy, Lovely Complex, Toradora, and Kimi Ni Todoke.

Stuff like Nana or Deep Love is like "Hey guys! Life sucks! Shit happens! That fairy tale love you see wont last! But keep on getting up and slugging through the crap. You'll grow!"

I don't know, I don't prefer one over the other.

For me, it's more of how real the characters are. I mean, I loved [m]Demon Ororon[/m], but that one was entirely fantasy. But the characters were so fleshed out - they were really interesting people.
And there's also stuff like Vitamin that also have very "real" people.
