So I just heard on the news. Looks like Japan is screwed. a 9.0 quake hit and major tsunami's everywhere. Hope as many people can be saved and safe as possible. I'll be praying for them tonight.

It seemed like every Japan-based person I followed on Twitter was okay after the quake but that tsunami ain't no joke. Praying for their safety.

If you're interested in a live news (?) feed from Japan: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/fc2mh3

I really hope that's not the only thing you care about...
I just heard this from a friend, and now I'm watching the news...
It seems that the urban areas are safe, but the rural areas were damaged terribly.
Praying for their safety.

Those are need to know facts not the only things I care about, of course I know people died and towns were ruined but I know this and theirs nothing anyone can do to change that. I will still pray for thier safety but thats all i can do.

That doesn't make that a "need to know" fact. It's kind of a trivial one. It's just the only one you can think of that affects you- there's very little empathy in that, which is mildly disconcerting.

Seems like most of my Tokyoite friends are fine. The tsunamis are nasty, but the earthquakes weren't bad. Japanese meteorological stations are calling it a 7.9. Hopefully there'll be some fast rescue work in the north in particular. The shots I'm being sent of Sendai and Iwate are insane.

For those without cable, you can watch live coverage of the tsunami here: http://english.aljazeera.net/watch_now/

The images are shocking.

I just finished watching the news covering the latest happenings and it's bad....the earthquake was bad, 8.9, it's being labeled as the 7th strongest in recorded history and the after shocks are no joke either, especially cus the water just keeps coming....
They said it may reach all the way to California by 7:30am Pacific time....
Hopefully they can rescue as many people as possible since you can see people waving flags from their second story windows and people on the roofs of buildings...
Let's hope for the best
