What do you think of the recent anime based of the game School Days?

Personally i thought it was an excellent story. It was in the style of a classical tragedy and really evoked emotion very well.

reread my post...Reality at full blast!!! NO mushy drama that makes a miraulous happy ending...

It was great because it was tragic...it portrays what would really happen if a person did what Makoto did...Sort of anyway >.>...not like those other series where even after all the drama and cheating the girl still forgives the guy...

and story even gives a moral biggrin

Loved it, blood, gore, and all!

I'm glad that Makoto didn't play the stereotypical dumb male protagonist, who're incapable of decoding a girl's obvious show of emotions. He was a jerk and an ass, but god damn it, if he wasn't a good one. He's a real life reflection of how teenage love really is. It's not all innocent and pure, young love rarely is. It's about dealing with your sudden attraction to the opposite gender, exploring yourself (and others) sexually, and experimenting within that realm with multiple partners.

This anime was definitely not aimed at the otaku crowd who're use to seeing the 'nice guy' get the girls by the dozen. I loved School Days.

I'll agree that he is an idiot, but lets look at the story outside of the confines of its medium. If this had been a live action movie made in hollywood, but with the same basic story, it would still be great because it is a tragic story. The protagonist has a tragic flaw that ultimately leads to his downfall. I think that its an interesting look and human psychosis and its causes. This is almost Shakespearian in magnitude. And it made me think more than any other anime i have watched in the last few months.

The protagonist is one of the biggest jackasses i've ever seen, and STILL does he get 5 or 6 girls obsessing over him. I mean wtfconfused?
And the ending scene :s what is with that, that girl is sick. The only thing i actually liked in that anime is the artwork which was pretty good.

The honest truth is, in reality, women are more attracted to the jerk than they are to the nice guys. Anime/Manga twists those rules around for their own needs, but that doesn't make it any less true in reality. Women will never straight out admit to that fact, but it's true. A nice guy is nice to have as a friend, but a bad boy, that's where it's at. And that's another reason why I love this anime. Aside from the extreme ending, it plays the male/female relationship very closely to the truth.

You're right.. Girls(usually young) like 'bad boys'.. Even though some don't realize that.. They just have this idea, I guess.. They want to be 'lead'.. They also want to have some 'excitement' in their relationship..

It's not really only that. Girls, no matter who they are, want the Alpha male. They want their offspring to carry the most 'dominant' genes of the pack. So that their own genetic material will survive into the next few generation, they will seek out a dominant male. It's nature itself. Men who are incapable of expressing any form of dominance over their life, will not have their genetic material past on and their genetic material will be weeded out that way.

It's not about being a jerk, it's really about self-confidence. If you have self-confidence and self-respect for yourself, it shows. Keep in mind that only about twenty percent of how we communicate is with our words. The rest is all physical, and we're all keyed into those physical aspect unconsciously. Especially women when they're looking for, for a lack of a better word, a mate.

Valid point. But can a man be self confident without being an ass? Personally i think that the characterization of a jerk or an ass is typical of a strong willed man. A strong willed man stand by his convictions no matter what anyone says. And as far as the biology of the equation is concerned, the dominant genes in question are the ones that allow the male of the species to be a better provider and defender of the of spring and the mate.
