^^ Has anyone ever read any, manga or anime? Whether it was slightly disturbing to downright jaw-dropping shock, post your stories, people! eyes

Mine happened when I was only 12 *shudder*... It was also when I just started getting in manga/anime and I didn't know what was good or not, so I was often browsing forums for recommendations. And one day, someone said "I really like Gantz!" (no offense!) and of course, I had no idea what is was about or what rated R means (yea...*feels so stupid*). Of course, I was left disturbed for weeks. But now I know better. smile (the same thing happend with Elfin Lied (no offense again!) right after...)

i'd say the first time someone sees guro opens their eyes to the darker side of anime.

Never.
although, from what people have said, some of the series i am gonna start reading this week, i might end up with one or two series that scar me.

seriously doubt it tho, seeing as how nothing to this day has left a lasting effect on me.

Hmm...does the time I accidentally wandered into a hentai shop in Akihabara count?

It was a while ago, but I remember being disturbed by the ~3rd grader in a wheelchair being tentacle raped.

Never. I've sat through Battle Royale, Gantz, Ichi the Killer, and Elfen Lied without flinching. Once I summon the courage to read Mai-chan, though, I might get pretty disturbed (just from what I've heard).

No. I didn't start reading stuff like Gantz until after I was really into shows like CSI, which can be pretty graphic. If you can stand the first 30 minutes of Saving Private Ryan, I'm confident that you can handle most of the graphic stuff the manga world can throw at you.

Oh gosh, in history last year we watched the beginning of Saving Private Ryan (it was kind of edited but not much) and i was closing my eyes through most of it. (for some reason i get scared and disgusted easily).

One manga that has scarred me, but i'm slowly getting over it, was scarring in a different way than violence. It was a manga that some girl was sucking a guy's...well you get the point...i instantly closed it (it was like the 3rd page of the manga) and started screaming in my head (it was night time so if i had woken up my parents i would have been so dead). Although it was really gross back then, i kind of laugh at it now. laugh

Before I actually used this site to filter through manga series, I just got random stuff that people had on irc. I learned what smut was the hard way...and I accidentally found out what yaoi was too. "Gosh, what these two boys say to each other sound like they like each other. That's odd. *go to the next page* Oh my God! *quickly delete the manga*" Never again shall I get random titles because it sounds pretty. (From my personal experience, a lot of yaoi/shounen ai titles sound pretty. Fools me all the time unfortunately... Yay for the filter button!)

The latest chapter of Gantz can be potentially very harmful to some... (who aren't familiar with Berserk of course). Anyway the latest Gantz chapter is just wow, i cant believe the author thinks of stuff like that. That mangaka's mind is a very disturbing place indeed.

I was reading your post while drinking bottled water... as I was taking out the plastic ring around the opening (yes... with my teeth =P), I got to the R-rated part and well... I almost choked to death lol (go me!)... I can't imagine myself as a kid reading those "aww a cute little girl!.... AAHH! She is ripping people's heads off!!!" dead

Anyways, I've always being picky about what I read and am prepared for shocking events (I love tragedy and manga that invokes lots of different emotions). So can't say I've been scarred by any manga. smile
