The anime isn't the problem. The problem is the parenting. I don't know about you, but I would never get away with not going to school...

too bad everyone aren't born with good parents. Even grown up people living alone may turn into otaku neets who ignore reality none

thanks furikuri this is the first forum I've been a member of feels like it has a good community compared to like MMORPG games ^^;

what are you talking about? is it fictional?

Trust me, only a small percentage of people do that. And those are the people who:
a) becomes poor
b) becomes criminal
c) becomes a mental patient
d) overcomes their addiction and becomes human again.

Well. i am not really sure if this is the real question in the post, but no, the anime isn't the problem. If it wasn't anime, there would always be something else to do alone and unsocial.
the cause would be something else, maybe family, slight depressions, lack of will, any number of things,

heads up tachikoma

Sounds like someone needs a helping hand...you should go see your friend. He needs someone to help him..like in NGE!

Actualy he was the one who showed me this site I figured if I could find him here or something...Even though it wasn't just the anime i'm just wondering how things would have turned out if we didn't meet, a friend is still a friend even if we can't stay friends I'd rather leave him alone knowing he's alive at least...if he would do something stupid like hurting himself I wouldin't stand myself for preaching how good anime is for other people. no

things would've gone bad for your friend somewhere along the line. It seems like he is the kind of person who would get easily addicted (be lucky it wasnt heroin or something) & no self-motivation and limited self-restraint. so it could've been worse, even though that is pretty bad.

hey.....you need to do nothing. Join the darkness. Embrace the addiction. Fantasize about things that never existed. Be one of us!!!!

This friend was obviously trying to escape reality, all forms of addiction are a way for us to escape the harsh reality. I know that I for one enjoy reading manga and playing video games. It allows me to see different worlds, let some steam out etc...

Some people on the other hand face bigger problems than a failed course or a girlfriend that leaves you to go out with your best friend. So they try harder to escape reality and they actually don't have anything in this world they are looking forward to, borderline suicidal.

And as you see it's not really the first friends fault neither it is the anime and mangas fault. If he didn't get addicted to anime, he might have become alcoholic, addicted to drugs or porn etc... Or maybe he would have just tried the big jump (Suicide)? Who knows...
But there is always a way out. But no need to force it, after all everybody is free and if he is doing no harm to anyone or himself, and actually manage to have steady income etc... Why not let him live like he wants to live?

Well anyway, I made a real long post to say absolutely nothing useful... Except that no one has to blame himself for other peoples decisions...

Sabin it's not "funny" seeing someone you hold dear ruin his/her life because of anime or games. It's not unusual for people to die being addicted to anime and games take WoW for example how many people have died so far? The whole concept of todays MMORPG gaming is just wrong I think, you spend most of your time grinding and don't really enjoy the actual interaction between other players. "L0L I 3lvls higher than U n00b" it's all just too sad...

sorry to hear about your(?) friend

i've had this happen as well.. but i think the most important thing for your friend is for him/her to find the desire to leave the world by him/her-self

the problem is why, and the solution varies for each reason...

but i guess good luck finding your friend, express your concern to him/her as well
