What is the best way to translate a dialect or accent of the original language that is not the norm (e.g., Kansai-ben)?

Are "Moe" Eyes REALLY Moe?

Do straight males, homosexual females, and etc actually find these types of eyes moe? What about straight females and etc? What are your opinions about the characters portrayed that way?

Examples would be The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (anime), Clannad, Air (anime), Shakugan no Shana (anime), and etc.

I don't exactly find it attractive.

In fact, the absence of that particular trait in actual humans makes it hard to discern exactly what I think of that.

This is a really weird question. The first problem is that I think it misinterprets the meaning of moe. The second is that I'm not sure the eyes them self are what makes something moe. I believe it's more of an overall quality than something that can be synthesized to a specific trait.

It depends, really. Like xombie, I would agree that the character as a whole is what determines whether or not they are moe, not an individual trait.

The key works might be a little bit more extreme though, potentially detracting from the character. Stuff like Haruhi or Shana have characters with big eyes, but they're not quite Key big.

The eyes themselves don't say much. You can't just stick those eyes onto anyone and get the same effect. It's like mixing the crying smily and the laughing one together.

Yeah, it depends. I don't think the eyes is the defining characteristic.

That said, generally I like the big eyes; they can be cute. I also like the moe girls in general (though I like stronger, more independent girls more).

Shoujo eyes?... Moe? I don't really like them in general... Nor do I like most shoujo heroins...
Maybe some. But it's not about the eyes, but the whole character.

Eyes can be anything as long as they aren't
those lake plate eyes that probably take up
to 60% of the space in head, leaving 30% for
brain.

It depends.

Imho a characters "moe" is defined by the characters physical features(eyes, hair, boobs,...), the characters mannerisms and the characters personality.

I've always been a sucker for beautiful eyes, so if there drawn really well then yes. Doesn't necessarily mean the character is though. It must be more than just one thing to truly make a character "moe."

Yes I enjoy those types of eyes. But yeah like some people people said... I also think 'Moe' is a combination of how a character acts/personality, how they look physically and that includes a lot of things, bodyshape/dress, eyes, hair. I certainly feel 'moe' towards a lot of female character in anime and manga though, they're very cute.

What I was asking was whether people found "moe" eyes attractive or moe... Not whether if made the characters moe, but I suppose you could discuss that here anway...

Personally speaking as a straight female and a fan, I usually use "moe" eyes as an indicator as to which series I should avoid since most (trashy, no offense) harem series always use the moe eyes style. Unless I hear some REALLY amazing reviews, I tend to run towards the hills.

But as an artist, I love drawing them because they're so gorgeous. smile wink grin

For me, I don't really find them moe, but if we're talking hair on the other hand... bigrazz

But we're saying that eyes cannot, in fact, be moe, because moe isn't that type of feeling (because any drawing style can be moe, there is no moe eye). Therefore the question is made null, and cannot be answered. You seem to be asking how we feel about a common and overused drawing style...

Really? I mean if it's so overused, there must be a reason right? So I assumed they were considered moe by many fans. In an another forum not too long ago, I came upon a small discussion about them (they called them "moe eyes," but I don't really know what they're really called...). And now I'm just curious if people actually find them "moe."
